The parade of Marvel property movie announcements continues today with word that they may be prepping a big screen version of The Guardians of the Galaxy. First published in 1969, and taking place in the 31st century, The Guardians are comprised of powerful beings from various planets, and one Earth astronaut who traveled in suspended animation for one thousand years. They join forces to battle the evil alien Badoon. The team was rebooted in 2008 with all new members including Adam Warlock and Rocket Raccoon. Rumor has it the Guardians of the Galaxy movie has been fast-tracked for a May 2014 release. Apparently a script is already in place for the film, written by Nicole Perlman, which the studio is quite happy with. As of now, no directors have been named as being in contention for the job.
Ok seriously, is it just me, or is Marvel still scrapping the bottom of the barrel here? As I've mentioned before, I am slowly acclimating myself to more and more comic books so I am about one hundred miles away from being called an expert, but there are plenty of characters I've never read who I've at least heard mentioned now and then. The Guardians of the Galaxy is another property, like The Human Fly, that is completely foreign to me. I imagine Marvel's thinking here was to churn out another superhero team as quickly as possible to capitalize on the success of 'The Avengers,' but I feel they need to be careful with this one. Reading info on the 2008 reboot of the Guardians, it's hard not to dwell on the fact that the team boasts a space raccoon and a telepathic dog. Let's just say that if they really are committed to doing a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I pray it's the classic lineup.
What do you guys think? Any Guardians of the Galaxy fans out there? Could this movie work? If so, how?

Comment by Mr. Robinson on June 29, 2012 at 1:03pm I'm excited about this because one of the Guardians enemies is Thanos so it would be cool to see him in this before "The Avengers 2"
Comment by Dr.DeadVortex on June 29, 2012 at 1:01pm i really want to see what they do with this, hopefully they get Andy Serkis to play rocket raccoon.

yes,it is just you.... :D
Comment by RedHand on June 29, 2012 at 12:49pm As with most things the plot may sound ridiculous, but the execution of Guardians of the Galaxy is amazing.
Comment by Nigel on June 29, 2012 at 12:48pm Brody. I agree. Ant Man and Human Fly would dilute the superhero movie pool with garbage. The only insect hero we want is Spidey. But Guardians of the Galaxy was always good.
Comment by Thanagarian Snare Beast on June 29, 2012 at 12:44pm Going forward with interesting and fresh concepts = scraping the bottom of the barrel?
Comment by PirateLordBush on June 29, 2012 at 12:02pm I audibly shouted "Fuck Yes!" When I read the headline. Been a huuge Guardians Of The Galaxy fan since Annihilation. Abnett and Lanning brought cosmic back to the Marvel Universe, baby!
Comment by Gregory Alford on June 29, 2012 at 11:57am Guardians of the Galaxy has a lot of tie in with the Fantastic Four, Black Bolt and the Inhumans, and one of my favorite story lines w/ Vulcan (brother to Cyclops and Havok from the X men) The King Breaker. So technically its a very expansive tie in with a lot of Marvel Characters.
Comment by War on June 29, 2012 at 11:51am Actually, Guardians of the Galaxy are pretty big in Marvel and open up a LOT of shit for the cosmic marvel comics. I'm glad they're making this. And if they do make the movie, they need to do the '08 lineup, NOT the classic
Comment by Joseph E T Hughes on June 29, 2012 at 11:47am All I can say on this topic is that Rocket Raccoon is in Ultimate MvC3, and he is awesome. So I am fine with this.
