Marvel Moving Ahead With Guardians Of The Galaxy Movie?

The parade of Marvel property movie announcements continues today with word that they may be prepping a big screen version of The Guardians of the Galaxy. First published in 1969, and taking place in the 31st century, The Guardians are comprised of powerful beings from various planets, and one Earth astronaut who traveled in suspended animation for one thousand years. They join forces to battle the evil alien Badoon. The team was rebooted in 2008 with all new members including Adam Warlock and Rocket Raccoon. Rumor has it the Guardians of the Galaxy movie has been fast-tracked for a May 2014 release. Apparently a script is already in place for the film, written by Nicole Perlman, which the studio is quite happy with. As of now, no directors have been named as being in contention for the job.

Ok seriously, is it just me, or is Marvel still scrapping the bottom of the barrel here? As I've mentioned before, I am slowly acclimating myself to more and more comic books so I am about one hundred miles away from being called an expert, but there are plenty of characters I've never read who I've at least heard mentioned now and then. The Guardians of the Galaxy is another property, like The Human Fly, that is completely foreign to me. I imagine Marvel's thinking here was to churn out another superhero team as quickly as possible to capitalize on the success of 'The Avengers,' but I feel they need to be careful with this one. Reading info on the 2008 reboot of the Guardians, it's hard not to dwell on the fact that the team boasts a space raccoon and a telepathic dog. Let's just say that if they really are committed to doing a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, I pray it's the classic lineup.

What do you guys think? Any Guardians of the Galaxy fans out there? Could this movie work? If so, how?

As long as it all leads up to a movie with The Annihilators

Gaurdians of the galaxy could really work as long as they confirm the plot points already laid down by marvel studios. For instance, there are a few magical characters in this film. Can marvel explain the magic withinin this fictional universe ? Thor had said that magic and science are seen as one. This statement is a little obscure. did he mean that any advanced Science will take the form of magic or that magic is simply undefinable from a scientific standpoint.. this question is very important because characters like Dr. strange (who will be used by marvel evantually) will seem naive or possibly incompetant if he does not have an accurate of definition of magic himself. Thus having the title "sorcerer supreme" would be tarnished from it's overwhelming resposibility.... A more important question is how are these characters going to conflict with the logic of already established characters, such as tony stark. Because iron man works due to his mechanically inclined nature to build and improve his suit through science. whereas a talking raccoon would never work.  The jaw structure has no logical capability for verbal speech. Characters like rocket raccoon and groot would best serve as species similar to that of earth but clearly are not such. Whcich could lead to a comical plot point of where the audience laughs do to the percieved notion of what is being represented, because clearly rocket is not a raccoon and groot is not a walking tree.  Give these character alien qualitites which makes sense

@ Joe Morrow I too would like to see Thunderbolts but I prefer the pre Osborn days. It was a great thing to witness Baron Zemo's redemption. The Tbolts have a great story, villains pretending to be heroes, then ultimately becoming heroes.

Fuck you! ROCKET RACCOON, Holy shit, that's going to be AWESOME!!!

I think Pixar should get their hands on this. it would be much better as an animated film than a live action one. a CGI racoon doesn't sound badass to me.

Gonna get one of the comics from the library just learn about them, this looks like it could be a lot of fun. As for marketing, they just have to make it clear that this movie ties into the Avenger universe, which may include having Thanos in the ads.

The Guardians are being done to introduce Thanos, plain and simple. Not a bad move if you ask me. It's not going to make Avengers money but for the right budget, I think we can get a kick-ass space opera movie.

Flop in the making. They'd be better off having the creators of Watchmen make an Inhumans movie...

Scream in their face anyway.
