Mark Millar Hired As Creative Consultant For Fox's Marvel Films

Mark Millar, the comic book author behind 'Wanted' and 'Kick-Ass,' has just landed the ultimate gig at Fox. The studio has hired him as a creative consultant to advise on all their upcoming films based on Marvel properties. In addition to his own original books, Millar has written plenty of stories for Marvel mainstays. He worked on 'Civil War,' 'The Ultimates,' and 'Wolverine: Old Man Logan.' On its Marvel horizon, Fox currently has 'The Wolverine,' 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' and Josh Trank's 'Fantastic Four'reboot. Here's what Millar had to say on his new position...

"As someone who has spent his entire life obsessed with both comic-books and movies, this is essentially my dream gig as it’s a unique combination of both. I spent ten years working at Marvel and am really happy with the work I did on the comic side of things so the idea of working with these characters now in a brand new medium is enormously exciting for me. I really like the Fox team, love this bold new direction they have for their franchises and am proud to be working alongside some of modern cinema’s biggest talents. James Mangold is incredible, Matthew Vaughn’s one of my closest pals and Josh Trank gave us, in my opinion, one of the greatest superhero movies of the last decade with Chronicle. The invitation to join this crew was maybe the coolest phone-call I’ve ever had."

I guess I was mistaken, but I thought Joss Whedon was going to be the creative consultant on all Marvel movies? But it now looks like the overarching organization will have two consiglieres; one for the Disney/Paramount gang and one for the Fox family. Sorry, been watching a lot of 'Godfather' lately. I'm not familiar with Millar's work as a comic book artist. The 'Kick-Ass' and 'Wanted'films are really my only insight into his stories, as much as a film adaptation can be. That said, the important thing to take away from this is that Marvel, as a multiple studio film entity, is making some really impressive moves to ensure a higher caliber of superhero movie. By hiring someone with a history in the comic book business to oversee their films, they are demonstrating a commitment to both the rich catalog of source material as well as the fanbase.

What do you guys think? Is this a good hire for Fox/Marvel? If not Millar, then who would you have chosen for this important job?

@Ha-Ra

Have ever read Superior, 1985, Superman: Red Son, His Superman Adventure run? Also assuming someone's personality through the material he's written is pretty stupid of you.

It's pretty obvious that whoever wrote this did very little research.

Fox is fucked.

Not positive about this. Millar is a hair trigger away from being a full-blooded murderous psychopath if he was not writing comics. The guy also hates anyone who dares to read his material by making his heroes lunatics, filling up scenes with unnecessary rape (the gang bang of a teenage girl in Kick-Ass 2 has made me frothing mad at this asshole), and writes endings that are a giant middle finger to the audience

@Roboto

That's another reason why I don't like Millar. He writes comics with the sole intention of turning them into movies.

Guys, I don't like Mark Millar but I don't think he's stupid either!

Remember the way he made Wanted with instructions for the artist to draw the main character looking like Eminem, it was as though he was prepping that project to be sold as a movie.

That's just one example of why I think he's a guy who knows how the business world works.

@Gregory Alford

In the one that I mentioned earlier? Kick Ass 2.

This information in this article is wrong; confusing many of the readers here.

Mark Millar is a mixed bag. But seriously people, calm down with all the rape/gang bang stuff. Why would Fox even let any of that happen (at least to the extent people are implying.)

We can all go back and forth on some of his best and worst. But please, all this speculation means absolutely nothing. There is always the "better choice." How about we do something crazy and wait to see what he does with this position of power. I don't think any of us want him to f*** up.

@Herman Really? Whats the name of the storyline that involved rape by Mark Millar?

Happy Birthday Roboto While I agree with most of what you just said,I still think Grant Morrison's Flex Mentallo is pretty good.
