'Man of Steel' Set Pics Show Off Costume

Source: CBM

More set pics from the Plano, IL set of Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel' have appeared on numerous sites around the internet this morning, and show off a much clearer look at the new costume Superman will be donning in the film. Taken during scene rehearsals, the cape has been removed (most likely to allow star Henry Cavill a chance to practice without tripping on the massive floor-length fabric), allowing us to see the many details and additions to the classic suit:

I Love Superman

Some years Action Comics 775 featured a story where a new group of superheroes called the Elite showed up and started killing off the world’s supervillains (they were modelled after the modern image comics heroes like the Authority complete with modern looking costumes) which made them super popular. Superman’s popularity began to plummet and people asked why we needed the outdated Superman.

Superman fought the Elite and using some heat vision did some temporary damage to their brains removing their powers or putting them under. Superman convinced the leader of the Elite that he’d lobotomised him and as the world watched via newsfeed the leader of the Elite broke down and cried that Superman shouldn’t have done that, because he’s the good guy who always does the right thing.

Superman’s costume doesn’t need to be updated, it’s meant to look old fashioned because in a world full of superheroes with battle armour, guns, bandanas and whatever gimmicks might be popular at the time, he’s the guy who shows up and shows the new characters how it’s done and why he’s been around for more than seventy years and why he’ll be around long after their popularity has waned.

Superman is a classic.
