Roland Emmerich's 'White House Down,' revolving around a group of terrorists attacking that iconic piece of real estate at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, now has reason to be nervous. That is, reason to be nervous beyond the fact that it was directed by Roland Emmerich. I kid, I kid. 'White House Down' is set to star Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx. For awhile now it's been known that another White House siege movie, 'Olympus Has Fallen,' was in the works. 'Olympus Has Fallen' will be directed by Antoine Fuqua ('Training Day') and features Gerard Butler in the lead role. Well now it seems things are about to get a little more awkward for these two similarly-plotted actioners. 'Olympus Has Fallen' has been picked up by Film District and has had it's release date bumped up to April 5th of 2013, which actually sets it ahead of 'White House Down'sJune 28th, 2013 opening.
It's 'Deep Impact'/'Armageddon' all over again! It would be one thing if these movies seemed at all different, but their plot synopses actually sound like someone going into one, taking out the key words, and replacing them with synonyms for those words in order to create the other. Given that the plots are so identical, we're forced to look at casts and directors to try and decide which sounds more promising. 'Olympus Has Fallen' would appear to have the clear edge in the directing department, but Gerard Butler actually has me more worried for 'Olympus Has Fallen' than Channing Tatum has me worried for 'White House Down.' Yeah, that's where we're at. The move by Fuqua's film, a somewhat petty jump, may actually do more harm than if the film had been released after 'White House Down.'Rushing a movie into theaters before it's fully fleshed out just to compete with another film? Sure, that sounds like a brilliant plan that can't possibly backfire.
What do you guys think? Does this release date move strike you as wise? Which of these two films are you more interested in?

this is not a new thing, it's called piggy backing, and these are just the big films. there are dozens of low budget companies that crank out straight to video films that are similar, but way worse then the ones in theaters.
P.S. both films have been done filming for awhile now, so release dates won't affect the films quality, only the films quality will.
Comment by mjtfreeze on October 30, 2012 at 10:52am White House Down, sounds like fun.
Comment by Jensen Ex on October 30, 2012 at 7:50am Channing Tatum sucks all life out of every scene he's in.
Comment by Luke Hero on October 29, 2012 at 11:18pm I read both script.Although Olypmus has the better motive I enjoyed White house down since it was more Buddy duo between the president and Agent blowing shit up in the white house and fight the group.
anyone wants the white house down script tell me

Comment by Tom on October 29, 2012 at 3:34pm Meh. Both movies sound stupid. I'll wait for a trailer to decide.
Comment by Lt. Commander Armstrong on October 29, 2012 at 3:05pm I can't say I'm excited for either of these, but 'Olympus Has Fallen' is a cooler title at least.
