Lionsgate and WWE Prep 'Leprechaun' Reboot

As today seems to be another entry in the continuing adventures of "What Will Hollywood Remake Today?", it has been announced that Lionsgate Entertainment, in conjunction with WWE Studios, plans to relaunch the 'Leprechaun' horror series, with eyes towards a 2013 release. The original 'Leprechaun' in 1993 gave us our first exposure to Jennifer Aniston, spawned six (wait... seriously? *checks again* yes, SIX) sequels, and in general made us all a little bit more uneasy around people shorter than 4 feet tall.

Starring the incredible Warwick Davis ('Willow', 'Harry Potter'), the film centered around an angry and violent leprechaun who sets out to recover his pot of gold from anyone foolish enough to steal it. There's no word as to whether Davis will once again reprise his role as The Leprechaun, or whether a new actor will be brought in to fill his tiny buckled shoes. However, considering that this is a joint venture with WWE Studios, it will likely feature a professional wrestler in a starring role (since all their films do).

WWE CEO Vince McMahon and Film Division Lead Michael Luisi had this to say:

"We have been looking for ways to continue our relationship with Lionsgate and we saw 'Leprechaun' as the perfect opportunity to take a well-known franchise and put a modern-day spin on it. This is a property that we believe our audience will respond to and we continue to look for ways to surprise and engage them."

WWE Spillios out there (and we know you're out there) - who do you think they'll end up casting in the new reboot? Would it be fair to take down a supernatural being with a piledriver? Post a comment below and let us know!

Who cares? It's fucking Leprechaun. Remake it. Reboot it. Rehash it. There's no way you can make Leprechaun any worse than it has always been.

I think that I'd much rather see the Child's Play reboot that's currently in development hell.

I think it will be Hornswaggle to play the character.

Being a long time pro-wrestling fanboy from 9 to 34, I'm shuttering in disgust thinking this is a possibillity for Vince Mcmahon.  It's bad enough the WWE franchise has been attempting to make moviies to begin with, but this will be another big low. And how obvious that little fat-ass Hornswoggle is going to get casted as that leprachaun witch is sad enough so many of these movies were made in the first place.

If they go the horror/comedy route I'll hold my breath and say it might have a working edge.
