If it's crap ... We'll tell you

When one needs a well-seasoned badass for one's film, one would have to be out of one's tiny little mind to not call Liam Neeson. That fact is certainly not lost on Warner Brothers. Along with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment, WB is producing a film called 'The All Nighter.' The plot revolves around an aging hitman who must take on his former employers over the course of a single night in order to save his wife and son. According to reports, Liam Neeson is in negotiations to play the lead role. 'The All Nighter' is based on a spec script by relative newcomer Brad Ingelsby, who is also rumored to be working on the remake of Indonesian action bombast 'The Raid: Redemption.' The studio loved the script so much that they snatched it up for a reported six figures. No word yet on a finalized deal for Neeson, nor any indication as to who may be directing 'The All Nighter.'
Liam Neeson really does seem to have a very particular set of skills; all of which lead to a pile of bodies on screen. However, let's be real here, the guy's been a badass through practically his whole career. 'Rob Roy,' 'Krull,' 'Next of Kin,' hell I'll even give him props for his part of 'Episode I.' I am really stoked at the idea of a Liam Neeson actioner taking place over one night. The reason 'Taken' worked so well is that it was a completely streamlined action film with no filler and no dead air. It seems that trend will continue in 'The All Nighter,' possibly even take it to the realtime nth degree. My concern with this project, well not so much a concern as a condition of my anticipation, is the vacant director position. While I loved Pierre Morel's 'Taken,' but when Olivier Megaton took over for 'Taken 2,' even Neeson couldn't pull it out of the narrative and editing tailspin. My hope is that the director for 'The All Nighter' will be more Morel and scale back the Megaton.
What do you guys think? Could this be another 'Taken?' Is Neeson still in his prime for these role or is he starting to show his age?

Comment by Dr. Detfink on November 19, 2012 at 3:51pm Liam Neeson will still be doing action movies when we are all collecting social security (assuming it lasts that long).
Comment by MahMahAfro on November 19, 2012 at 3:49pm Olivier bloody Megaton... Columbiana - shit! Transporter 3 - shit! Taken 2 - shit! Stop giving this guy promising movie franchises so he can fuck them up!!
The All Nighter sounds like a great way to basically have more Taken movies but without the tarnish of the last one being so shit and without having to squeeze in shit that's just gonna bog down the movie ie the ex-wife and daughter. Let's hope they get it right this time!
