Comment by Radio Free Zerg on April 11, 2012 at 2:27am This talk about racial discussion reminds me of when Bill Cosby made his 'Pound Cake Speech' at an NAACP awards ceremony commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education and the black community of today booed him for his constructive criticism. That was 8 years ago, but his points are still relevant. I think to paraphrase what Cosby said, addressing the black community: apply yourselves to education, dress appropriately, stop speaking in ebonics, be responsible with the money you earn, and black men need to stay as their babies' father and keep the family unit together.
The Black community can't compete in America if the Black american culture of today doesn't realize this. The sort of Black conservatism and nationalism Cosby spoke of, and it's antecedent taught by older generations of Black leaders such as Booker T. Washington, Marcus Garvey, and Malcom X, is currently not popular nor comfortable to discuss as of right now and the media of today takes on either a liberal narrative or a modern GOP narrative. Al Sharpton, Whoopie Golbert, and other prominent black celebrities won't talk about the root issues because its political and cultural suicide. Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and other prominent modern Republicans aren't subtle with their words, and therefore will drive away other audiences. The Black community will only listen to a Black man talk about it, but they booed him for it as well. This lost of Black conservatism and nationalism to make your own community persevere and to strive from the grass roots up has been replaced by a culture revolving around the style of hip-hop and irresponsibility and depending on government assistant living (Bone Thugs N Harmony - 1st of the Month).
The death of Trayvon Martin was the perfect opportunity for an open discussion and dialogue to discover and pry at the root of the problem. Instead, the media on both sides of the aisle cooked it to make their own narrative, poisoning the well, and made it about an issue about the symptoms of racism, and later on, left-wing/right-wing politics, instead of finding the root cause of the racism itself, which was clearly laid out by Bill Cosby 8 years ago at the NAACP awards ceremony.
We got young Blacks dying in the streets everyday, half of the prison population are African American, and we have a racial divide against Blacks. Generalizations and stereotypes are developed because in some degree, they are true to an extent. These claims are not generalizations and stereotypes, but they are truths. The truth is, stay, and raise your child right, and the problems of racism against African Americans will mend when the Black community empowers themselves more productively and pragmatically. People are dying and lives are being perpetually destroyed, in the United States. This is a fucking problem, no shit.
