Leon's WTF Theater presents: "Is Billy Bob Thornton the new Joaquin Phoenix or just a giant A**hole?
Billy Bob Thornton with his band, the Boxmasters, who are on tour with Willie Nelson, appeared on Q TV for CBC radio in Canada and inexplicably turned hostile on the host right out of the box evading simple questions and criticized the host for 'insulting' him by referring to him as an "actor". Not hammering him for being an actor that was TRYING to sing, mjnd you, just suggesting that some people may have seen a motion picture or two that Thornton happen to appear in. It starts when host Jian Ghomeshi innocently asks Thornton when the band formed and Thornton belligerently answers, "I don't know what you're talking about."
If you enjoy 'Teatro del Awkward' here's a great new trophy for your collection:
Speaking by phone later, Ghomeshi said: "To not answer questions because I made the apparently egregious mistake of calling him an actor as well as a musician, it just seemed a little absurd."
My hat's off Ghomeshi for not tossing Billy Bob's hillbilly ass right out of the studio. And if turns out that this a put-on and Thorton and Joaquin Phoenix are doing an "Andy Kaufman", listen up, dillweeds: If there IS a new Andy Kaufman his name is
...and he does it better than you could ever hope to!
Either way, pull your heads out of your collective asses and knock it off, already. You're starting to bore us.

If that shit was going to be a problem, BB should have advised them not to talk about his film career beforehand before the interview. That's really the main reason that people are coming out to see him. It's no different than the Bacon Brothers, or when Keanu or Bruce Willis were doing their music tours.
If the band sounds great, that's an added bonus, but that isn't why folks will initially buy tickets and records from them. He should count his blessings.

Thorton knew exactly what he was doing...and it wasn't to be a new Andy Kaufman or follow up Joaquin Phoenix's bizarro whatever on Letterman. He was being a brat and trying to be cute about it. He spent the first few minutes stewing over the host mentioning that he had a career other than music, answering "i don't know what you mean" until he decided that if this guy's going to talk about stuff other than just the band, i'm just giong to talk about whatever comes to mind. He's a jerk...and apparently unprofessional. I would hate to see how he is on set.

i don't know if billy bob is a complete ass or if he's brilliant. i think if he sat there and answered all the questions politely it would be just another crappy radio show that nobody listens to. he acted like a jerk and now it's all over the net. heck i didn't even know he had a band until just now. good behavior usually goes unrecognized, especially in hollywood. acting like a jerk will get you on the front page because that's what people are interested in.
