Len Wiseman To Direct 'Total Recall' Remake

Source: Columbia Pictures

Columbia Pictures has just sent out a tweet claiming that Live Free Or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is in final talks to helm the studio's remake of the classic sci-fi actioner Total Recall.

Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in the 1990 original that centered on his Douglas Quaid/Hauser character, who yearns for an escape from his seemingly boring life as a construction worker. When he plans a virtual vacation to Mars, an unexpected and harrowing series of events forces him to go to the planet for real, or does he?

Neal H. Moritz will produce a contemporary update of the film, itself based on Philip K. Dick's short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale", through his Original Film banner. Kurt Wimmer (Salt) is writing the screenplay.

Commenting on the announcement, Tolmach said, "Len has an incredible love of the genre and a great gift for action. He'll bring a contemporary feel to the film while taking care with everything we love about Philip K. Dick's original story."

Moritz said, "I have been trying for years to work with Len and fortunately we finally found a great project that he loves as much as we do. Len is terrifically talented and we know he is the right director to re-imagine Total Recall for a new generation of fans."

Wiseman added, "I've always been fascinated with Philip K. Dick's short story, and I'm excited at that prospect of diving even deeper into the type of world it evokes and the questions it asks. I love that the most crucial mystery our character is trying to solve is the one of his own soul."

I have a feeling this will be a grittier, 'more mature' and less fun version of the original.

Exploding Knees are you crazy with Toy Story 3, they just started rebooting Spiderman since the last one came out ages ago : MAY 7, 2007 lol. Oh and Len Wiseman the it's unfortunate that there will always be filmakers ripping off original movies, and it's fortunate that there will always be some good ones inspired by classics, but either way they both have the desency to atleast give the movie ANOTHER TITLE.
