League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen - May 19, 2010

The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen: Volume 4, Issue 18: Joe R. Lansdale and (ostensibly) Westerns

Ok so maybe we didn't get to as much Western stuff as we originally planned. But dammit, we had Joe here, the writer of "Bubba Ho-Tep", and the best run ever of "Jonah Hex", amongst many other things. The guy is a WEALTH of information and cool stories. I know this LEOG is a bit off our usualy beaten path but I think you'll enjoy listening to it as much as we did recording it.

I just saw Bubba Ho-Tep yesterday, listened to this mostly because of that. And I was pleasantly surprised with this episode, interesting discussion of race, especially since alot of you guys are from/grew up in Texas. Very frank and honest and treated the conversation with the complexity and poise it requires. Now I need to go rent Batman: The Animate Series(should own it i know, but I'm broke) and check out those episodes Joe worked on again.

Joe that was Jessie "The Body" Ventura who said Hulk Hogan didn't know the difference between a wristwatch and a wristlock.

Now I have a whole slew of new films to watch(haven't seen most of Robert mitchum's work) and some new comics to check out.

Good shows guys, Long Live The League!!!

Jason- I started reading Drive-In and I was right. The "bubble" will fuck you up...just not in the way I expected. YIKES!!!

The Lansdale interview was on point, I recommend checking out his short story in "The Further Adventures of The Joker" entitled "Belly Laugh or Joker's Trick or Treat".

Jason- I read a description of Drive-In in a Fangoria review. I figured it might be some sort of bubble thing and while not quite that, the basic idea is there. Except this bubble will fuck you up.

Damn, what a great guest. This is, in my opinion, one of the best episodes and I am now a fan of Joe. He is just so damn articulate and entertaining.
