The League of Extremely Ordinary Gentlemen Volume 3, Issue 5: New Comics and FF Wrap-Up
Something a little different this week as Jason, Korey, Co-Host and Cyrus were at Fantastic Fest and the rest of the crew were left to their own devices. Surprisingly, some of them got together with Leon and made a video version of the LEOG about all the new comic releases (so maybe now Leon will leave me the hell along about it). Jason and Cyrus also got together and recorded their own wrap-up on FF so you get a two-fer LEOG this week. Enjoy!

And as far as the Dark Tower graphic novels, I was at Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago and these bad boys were on sale. Might be a good time to check them out.
Beau: Gotcha. I seemed to have missed the last "call for LEOG podcast questions" post, and I thought that maybe Grant was pulling questions from that discussion in the video.
just trying to see if the Lay of the Land had changed. Thanks Beau.
Grant: I usually share the "talking animals are creepy/lame" but I will say Beasts of Burden is the exception. I think it's not just "talking cute animals", Evan Dorkin a) has a really natural gift for entertaining engaging dialog, and creating convincing voices for specific characters, but also b) he's doing something with this title that no other talking animal story really has done much of. his approach to this is that he works in what he thinks might be an animals' view of not just the world, but also ways to explain the things going on.
One of the "Dark Horse Book of" books (book of the dead, I think it was "Let Sleeping Dogs Lie") the B.o.B story starts off with a series of captions, a poem about dying by the side of the road. and at the end of the poem it had the suffix
"-Traditional Dog Verse" or something like that. and he sprinkles this stuff in. It sort of takes it away from the frame of being a "talking animal story"... What I mean is, you have a "Milo and Otis" or that Chiuaua movie that came out last year which (other than being saccarine & corny) which pretty much just make the animals types of people. Wheras in Beasts of Burden, they are undeniably Dogs and cats, We can just understand what they're saying. We get echos of dog mythology and cat beleif system not enough to bog the story down, jsut enough to flavor it.
You should give issue one a chance... or if you don't want to spend the money, check out the shorter stories from the Dark Horse "book of" series, which can all be found here.
I LOVED the video podcast! It would be fantastic as an occasional change-up option.
I agree that a boom mic or some lavs would be a good addition, but I know how it is working with the tech you've got. You all did an admirable job with a very simple setup, and (with the brief exception of the dual-audio, which really wasn't that bad), I had no problem hearing everything. Also, I really liked the fact that we could *see* panels from the comics being discussed - made me want to pick them up even more (esp. "Underground").
Liked it when Harris occasionally looked at the camera - felt like he was bringing the audience into the conversation. As far as the Spill regulars who don't want to appear on camera - I vote for paper cutouts of their Toons on popsicle sticks. Or sock puppets...
No. I was on the League Lounge chat group taking questions from people who were online. I believe we mentioned we might take questions from that discussion thread but we never did, nor do I think we plan to.
