If it's crap ... We'll tell you

Synopsis:
When Lord Shen (Gary Oldman), the peacock supervillain takes over the kingdom from which he'd been exiled with a deadly new weapon, Po (Jack Black) and the Furious Five go on a mission to stop him, save kung-fu, and discover the mystery of Po's past.
Story Revu:
The first Kung Fu Panda was a bit of a surprise, but it essentially retooled every old Sammo Hung movie into a cartoon for kids... and it did a phenomenal job. The sequel doesn't look to break this formula. Instead it moves forward with the next adventure and the next villain. With this sort of formula, Kung Fu Panda could just go on forever, and as long as the writing remains sharp and self-aware each movie will be relatively as fun as the last one. Make no mistake, this is a kids movie, so adults watching it will be able to predict everything in the story from pretty early on. But it doesn't need to surprise in order to entertain. The jokes are for the most part really solid, and the story moves by super quickly. There's really not much more to say. It's a really good kids film. Funny. Entertaining. If you like the first one, you'll like this one. I, personally, liked the first one a little better, but honestly, it could be up for debate. The only real complaint is that despite having huge talent doing VO work, the Furious Five are used so sparingly that they might as well not be. I'll be hoping the next one establishes more of a team dynamic than just "Panda and friends."
Action Revu:
The action set pieces stand out and really make the film worthwhile. They're fun and funny and sometimes just crazy. My favorites were, easily, fighting the wolf pack at the beginning and the chase sequence. They both did a great job of balancing martial arts with comedy with "stunts" that all looked really cool.
Overall:
What can I say? It's just as good as the first one in all the same ways. Fun for kids, entertaining for adults, definitely worthwhile.
