Kirk, Spock & Medea take on Wolverine, SkyNet, Pixar and Tom Hanks... Can Trek Boldly Go?

So, I have been asking around...
As much as I am hoping for Star Trek XI to be good, I'm worried that despite its best efforts, it's going to get buried. I think it may have a good opening weekend, but here's what it has to compete with:

X-men Origins: Wolverine - May 1st
Star Trek - May 8th
Next Day Air - May 8th
Angels and Demons - May 15th
The Brothers Bloom - May 15th
Terminator - Salvation - May 22nd
Night at the Museum 2 - May 22nd
Dance Flick - May 22nd
Up - May 29th
Drag Me to Hell - May 29th

With some of these movies already having a built-in audience, and Trek (no pun intended) alienating their audience - J.J. Abrams has said: "I didn't really make the movie just for the (fans), because I like Star Trek but I was never a massive fan. So I think the movie's going to not satisfy everyone, of course. It can't." - It is feeling in someways that the film makers don't care about the old fans. They're hoping to build a new base. I think Trek will not do as well as Paramount is predicting. With tickets now at ten bucks regular price, are people going to fork it over for a bunch of not-Shatner, Sylar, Shaun, Charlie Bartlet, Harold, Eric Bana, Ma-to the Goddamn D-E-A, and some no-names?
You guys tell me though: which of these May movies are you interested in? Will Trek live up to the hype?

Well put: "...betray the fans for a quick buck." Well, I'm a fan of both "Stars" as well... Of rather, I am a fan of what they once were. I can hope for the best, expect the worst, and hopefully come out somewhere in the middle.

I hate it when film-makers betray the original fans to for a quick buck. But in the end it's ALL about money. I'm a Star Wars fan, but I like Trek. I just hope it's decent. It might turn out like the Watchmen movie over-top with bizzaro sex and gore and strays from the source material, but ok. (I wish Chris Nolan would have directed Watchmen too) I'm looking forward to the Wolverine movie, even tho I know it'll be only mediocre.
