So, I have been asking around...
As much as I am hoping for
Star Trek XI to be good, I'm worried that despite its best efforts, it's going to get buried. I think it may have a good opening weekend, but here's what it has to compete with:
X-men Origins: Wolverine - May 1st
Star Trek - May 8th
Next Day Air - May 8th
Angels and Demons - May 15th
The Brothers Bloom - May 15th
Terminator - Salvation - May 22nd
Night at the Museum 2 - May 22nd
Dance Flick - May 22nd
Up - May 29th
Drag Me to Hell - May 29th
With some of these movies already having a built-in audience, and Trek (no pun intended) alienating their audience - J.J. Abrams has said: "
I didn't really make the movie just for the (fans), because I like Star Trek but I was never a massive fan. So I think the movie's going to not satisfy everyone, of course. It can't." - It is feeling in someways that the film makers don't care about the old fans. They're hoping to build a new base. I think Trek will not do as well as Paramount is predicting. With tickets now at ten bucks regular price, are people going to fork it over for a bunch of
not-Shatner, Sylar,
Shaun,
Charlie Bartlet,
Harold,
Eric Bana,
Ma-to the Goddamn D-E-A, and some no-names?
You guys tell me though: which of these May movies are you interested in? Will Trek live up to the hype?
