It didn't take long after the release of Quentin Tarantino's 'Kill Bill: Vol. 2' for talk of a third installment to crop up. It was ridiculous speculation...until Tarantino himself actually started talking about his plans for making 'Kill Bill Vol. 3.' Some of his collaborators were even backing him on it, making it seem as if it was at least a definite item on his future movie checklist. However, when 'Inglourious Basterds' was announced as his followup movie, things looked dicey for 'KB3,' and now with 'Django Unchained' following that, the outlook for a third 'Kill Bill' has become exceedingly grim. Now, possibly the final nail in the coffin for the project came from Tarantino's own lips during a 'Django' Q&A. Here's what he said when asked about the status of 'Kill Bill: Vol. 3'...

"I don’t know if there’s ever going to be a Kill Bill. Vol 3. We’ll see, probably not though.”

So...noncommittal with a heavy dose of doubt. As much of a fan of Tarantino's films as I am, I can't say I'm wildly disappointed about this. I dig the two 'Kill Bill' movies as one film, mainly because they tell one complete story. True, I like the first half more than the second, but they were really meant to be one filmic saga. It is for this reason that the mere concept of a third chapter baffles me. What was the premise behind it? Let's look at how we left things. The Bride got her revenge and, more importantly, Bill is dead. He has in fact been killed so the thought of a story continuation would, at the very least, require a title change. Tarantino is a frantic guy when it comes to how he conceives of his projects, and he is notorious for discussing ideas for films that will probably never get made. For example, where is that Vega Brothers flick? The fact that he doesn't definitively state whether 'Kill Bill: Vol. 3' is all dead or only mostly dead leaves, I suppose, a faint glimmer of hope. However, I'd say at this point we need to give up the ghost.

What do you guys think? Should we abandon hope for 'Kill Bill: Vol. 3?' Are you at all disappointed?

Lost hope for Vol. 3?? I don't even have a shred of hope they'll ever release Whole Bloody Affair, let alone any kind of sequel. The most exasperating thing is that for years and years Tarantino himself talked of plans to release his so-called vision of the two films in one complete version, complete with all new additions. Then they actually presented WBA at Cannes a year or two ago...and since then, nothing. No mention of wider theatrical release or plans for video. Not even now, that he's got a new box-set of his films being released and a new film almost in theaters. Tarantino needs to stop running his mouth so goddamn much and actually live up to his promises.

I remember him mentioning once that he wanted to do two animated stories, one a which a Bill origin tale. Would've loved to have seen that!

Maybe there was some kind of twist where Bill wasn't actually killed and they just acted his death out in front of the daughter or something, but since Carradine is dead the sequel wouldn't work.

That's the problem with cinema nowadays: franchises don't know when to end.

Kill Bill Vol 2 left the series with a satisfactory ending. All of the loose ends were tied up, and most importantly, Bill was Killed. The story is over. Period.

Nah, they should leave it where it's at. Part 2 was meh, but they did end it nicely.

There has always been speculation that Vernita Green's (Copperhead's) daughter would be out for revenge down the line.  Also, Elle Driver, a.k.a. California Mountain Snake, could still be alive.  The Bride left her stumbling around blind in a trailer with a snake, so it is conceivable she still lives.  I say let it rest for now, and pick it back up in 5-10 years when their actor's ages will be appropriate for Copperhead's daughter to be all grown up and go on a rampage all her own.  Having two daughters of assassins in their 20s sword fighting with Tarantino behind the script and camera makes for some interesting watching in my opinion.

I would be more surprised if he said he was going to make it. If Quentin actually made every movie he said he would he would have 100 titles to his name. The truth Tarantino doesn't even know what movie he is going to make until he sits down to write a script.

He never said it would be Kill Bill, he said if there would be a Kill Bill 3 it would follow Vivica Fox daughter going for revenge, it wouldn't be titled Kill Bill 3, that's just what it's being called.

Kill Bill 3: Bill lives! He has a gotten a mechanical heart and is out for revenge on the Bride. He's also played by David Caradine's corpse. Yeah, sounds like something Tarantino might do.

Quentin Tarantino: the poster child of the ADHD of film directors.
