At first this film appears "just okay," but if you read the novels you will really love and appreciate it. You would initially think of Hayden Christensen's character David Rice as pretty lame and Hayden's acting/voice
irritating. But if you get the back-story of the Character from the
novel, Hayden suits the role. David's alcoholic father abused his mother
(Diane Lane)
to the point where she took off abandoning him. David is left to take
the abuse until things get really bad with his dad and he unknowingly
Jumps/Teleports away. He then runs away to fend for himself.

Personally after seeing the film Mister Foe, I think Jamie Bell who played Griffin would have been a better leading role as David Rice, but eh. The film does stray from the novel a bit, in one way by making the mothers story
and reason for leaving more...Hollywood. I actually like the films
version of the mother because it leaves many possibilities for sequels
including Davids half-sister Sophie played by Twilight's Kristen Stewart being a Jumper herself or even a super-cool Paladin who hunts Davy.

I recommend reading Jumper which is 1 of 3 graphic novels by Steven Gould.
