In this modern day of age there are many beautiful young pop starts getting a lot of media publicity lately. These include Lady Gaga, Miley Cryus, Selana Gomez, Talyor Swift, and of course the lovable blonde Justin Bieber. So from the creators of the Justin Beaver movie Never say Never which I have not nor will ever see comes Katy Perry Part of me. Now I will admit to be a moderate fan of Katty Perry probably since 2010 with her song Firework which is my favorite song by hers flowing teenage dream. However I was nervous going into this film primarily due to seeing the film on the premiere of one of the most anticipated films of all time The Dark Knight Rises which just so happened to have a grave shooting rage associated with it in Colorado which in my opinion in pretty low crime state. When I walked into the theater I come to expect an audience consisting of mothers and their daughter’s ages 6-15 years old. Now I was not the only guy in the theater as one lone father was there with his wife and six year old daughter with another father joining in briefly but he kept walking in and out of theater and even snapped a photo of the audience which I do not think is legal and did not stay the entire length of the film.
The movie itself is primarily a documentary about the life of Katty Perry, her 2011 tour, and her relationship and break up with Russel Brand. Now the most fascinating part of the film for me was the history of Katty Perry growing up especially that she was raised by really passionate Christians. Now I am myself a Christian and have a passion for god but I do think that the parents were a little too restricting on what Katty Perry could do as she was not allowed to listen to non-gospel music or even popular children’s shows like the Smrufs in which she would irocanlly become one many years later. The film also contains interviews with her sister and brother which I personally found to be very supporting and nice people especially her sister for which accompanied her on her tour. The only part about this section that I did not like was the fact that whenever the grandmother came on screen everyone started laughing for some reason for while I found it cute it certainly was not funny. I also was crept out on what Katty looked like without her make up as she looked way to similar to Kristin Stewart.
The actual section about her tour was interesting as well. Mainly that she went on tour all year to every place in the world and still tried to maintain her relationship with Russell Brand who does appear in the film. Her apparition to the fans was quite touching as she would invite allot of young fans both male and female to come on stage to perform with her shows that she does care about making all of fanes extremely happy. All of Katty Perry hit songs are featured within the film including teenage dream, I kissed a girl, hot n cold, and of course part of me which is based on the title of the movie. They even included some lesser known Katty Perry songs which were surprisingly good but the one about the peacock was a little to adult for the young girls in the audience to listen to especially since the song included the word bi –otch. Do not worry though as they did not include her song your so gay and yes that song it real and is really catchy.
The final part of the film talked about her relationship with Russell Brand. Now personally I think that she was way too young to get married as she is a young beautiful bird that needs a good ten years to fly before settling down and she does say on the film that she does agree with that statement. It was also surprising to learn that her sister got married at the same time of her break up. Wow that’s rough but she was very supportive of her sister despite the obvious awkwardness. Now if you’re wondering if I hate Russell Brand I do not I think that these two people just were not ready to get married and I hop e that his career as well as Katty’s continues to flourish for many years to come although I do not think Russell is doing a very good job as his latest film Rock of Ages earned really bad reviews from fellow critics including everyone form the fellow spill crew expect Korey who just thought it was ok.
The film concludes with two of Katty Perry’s most popular songs Firework and California Gurls in their complete entity which gave every girl in the audience a reason to dance in their seat and being that Firework is my Katty Perry song I danced in my seat as well. The film also has cameos from Whoopi Goldberg, Ellen DeGeneres, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, and even Justin Bieber. I personally thought that all the cameos were odd expect with Rihana’s and Ellen’s. Whoopi’s has her KISS Katty, Lady Gaga grey bowl over her head, and Justin Biebers hair was in weird haircut and the only one not to have a name label. The little girl behind me however did shout with glee when he appeared on screen Justin Bibber! Justin Bibber! In for those of you who are reading this review do not know what Justin Bier looks like here he is.
Overall I enjoyed the film very much as it gave backstory on one of the most famous modern pop stars of all time and had really catchy music. However the film does not have anything that makes it worth seeing it in a theater unless you are a diehard Katty Perry fan that is of the female gander.
