While Marvel's production machine is in full swing on a number of Phase 2 projects, DC has seemed content with baby steps toward their epic superhero team-up 'The Justice League.' Today, however, a major component of the film appears to finally be in place. As we all know, superhero movies are as much defined by their villain as they are by their protagonists. We've therefore been waiting patiently to hear which baddie from the DC canon would be taking on the League. Now it looks like it'll be none other than Darkseid. Darkseid, a malevolent god and king of Apokolips, is one of the most powerful characters in the DC universe, and has often tangled with The Justice League and Superman individually in the comics. Reports indicate that Warner Brothers is aiming to get 'Justice League' into theaters by 2015; placing it possibly in direct contention with 'Avengers 2.'

This seems a suitable choice as far as I'm concerned. The difficult thing with any superhero team is that the villain chosen must pose a great enough threat to our planet in order to warrant the assembling of that much concentrated power. Darkseid is precisely the kind of threat that, like Loki and the Chitauri in 'The Avengers,' would prompt the forming of a union of heroes to protect the Earth. All that being said, I would highly advise taking this news with a grain of salt. It's not the official word from Warner Brothers, and the site that broke the story tends to be wrong as often as they are right. But for argument sake, let's say it is true. I am intrigued to see what the filmic version of Darkseid might look like. Would they be able to do any of that practically or would we be forced to suffer through an entirely digital Darkseid? Given that Warner Brothers gave the CG Green Lantern the green light, I think it's a very real concern. Hopefully they'll find a way to blend actor performance with digital technology and make Darkseid as imposing in the movie as he is in the comics.

What do you guys think? Is Darkseid the right choice for the 'Justice League' villain?

Suffer through a  digital Darkseid? How on earth would a practically done Darksied work or look? I figure the only way to do him would be to do him digitally. I agree with other posters though why would you use Darkseid on the first outing? He really should have more of a buildup. To use him for one movie and then dump him seems like a bad idea

I feel like if Darkseid is going to be the villain than he will last for more than one film.

I'd like to see an Injustice League in the sequel if they do make one.

They might be blowing their wad too early if he's like the most powerful villain in the DCU, you'd think they'd start with someone formidable, but not impossible (what with them being a new team and all).  Additionally, coming out the same summer as the Avegners won't be a good idea if the two large ensembled cast comic book villains are so similar in looks (not being a DC fan, I thought that was a picture of Thanos at first)

They should make a film about Darkseid first, this humongous threat that would require every bit of the justice league to face. Reading his wikipedia entry I would place such movie in Apokolips war against rival planet civilization New Genesis, showing the militaristic prowess and goal of Darkseid's rule, a bit of exposition of how Darkseid got his power too; the "good guys" would be defeated of course and the movie would end with Darkseid taking aim towards Earth. After seeing that other very advanced civilization lose so badly you'd be all "oooh shit"
