Potential 'Justice League' Plot Details Revealed

Slowly, ever so slowly, the big screen version of The Justice League moves forward. They still don't have a director, though we do know that screenwriting newbie Will Beall will be penning the script. Rumors have risen and fallen about whether Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be taking up the Batman mantle for the JLA movie, but one thing we do seem to know for sure is that Darkseid will be the villain. How would he work into the story, which story from the Justice League canon would they choose? We may have our answer today. It appears Beall will be working from Gerry Conway's 1980 "Justice League of America" run, which encompassed issues 183-185. The story revolved around Darkseid trying to place planet Apokolips in Earth's place with a death ray...guess who gathers to stop him? This story arc includes the likes of Doctor Fate, Powergirl, Mister Miracle, Geoforce, and the The Huntress.

I know there has been a considerable amount of unfavorable discussion about making Darkseid the villain in The Justice League movie, and how it's basically just DC trying to imitate 'The Avengers' utilization of Thanos, but I am very much looking forward to seeing how they bring this powerhouse of an antagonist to life. Now, we shouldn't be too quick to assume this will definitively be the plot, as this source does not state where they got this info, however I think it's worth playing devil's advocate. What I'm really interested in, should they go with this story run as a basis for the plot, is how many of the additional characters might turn up. I mean, they haven't even given individual movies to most of the recognizable members of the core team, but to then potentially draw from the iteration that featured Doctor Fate, Powergirl, Mister Miracle, et al? And I thought Martian Manhunter was going to be their tough sell to audiences. If this source material is confirmed, it'll be intriguing to see if they bring that entire version of the team into things or if they use it as a vehicle for the best known lineup; making changes in the process.

What do you guys think? Any fans of Conway's run out there? Would it make for a compelling Justice League film? Do you think they will go with the 1980 lineup including Powergirl, Geoforce, et al?

Not a lot of positive buzz around this film...I wonder if this is going to end up like the Wonder Woman tv show, were fans react so negatively towards a bad process and the whole thing just gets canceled before it ever gets started.

Oh dear... I have a strong feeling this is going to suck. HARD.

I think what DC really needs is its own Kevin Feige. As much as we all praise Joss Whedon for making The Avengers what it is (and rightfully so), Feige was the one who orchestrated the entire MCU. So DC needs someone to organize the DCCU because if not, DC is going to be floating in the water when it comes to film or it will be like the Michael Bay Transformers where millions of idiots (that are most likely not already fans) support shit that has no regard for its fan base.

For those of you wondering about the roster due to the story line, I recommend you look at the multi-media marketing.

There is so much more than this...

yeah I agree with everybody here... however, I think it will work, but not to the degree or level that it truly deserves. Marvel had the time, the patience and the balls to try something nobody else had ever thought about doing. They took several years worth of planning and giving each character their own proper introduction so that once the momentum built up to the Avenger's we were ready for it and wanted to see these characters we were already so invested in.

For DC to just rush out a superhero team movie for the sake of doing it? we could possibly be looking into Fantastic 4 type of failure here. Let's assume that it DOES work and that the movie itself is really good... there's no way it will break Avenger's type records. Especially if you don't have an established cast of characters. I don't want them crow-barring Batman into a movie just because DC knows he can draw a crowd.

They need to Reboot Batman in a more "comic book" like world  (still keep the gritty feel, but make it more fantastical), release a Flash movie, a new Green Lantern movie (it doesn't have to be a reboot of the Reynolds version... just make the sequel actually good.) and then in a couple years plan on a Justice League movie. I wouldn't even try rebooting Superman... just introduce him in the JL movie. I think enough people know Supes backstory without retreading it again. In all 3 of the core movies (Batman, Flash & GL) start adding pieces of the puzzle together that will eventually tie in as a whole. Establish Martian Manhunter in their worlds... let HIM be the Sam Jakson of the DC universe threading the plot elements into one. If DC mucks this one up it'll be a loooooong time before anyone is willing to give them another chance at this.

This just wont work, the establishment of members of the Justice League in the same universe like what has been done with Thor, Iron Man and Captain America (and a lesser extent, Black Widow, Nick Fury), just hasn't been done, and barring Nolan's Batman (which is obviously set in a universe far removed from one in which Wonder Woman, Aquaman or even Superman would exist) all other ventures in DC's superheroes in recent media have bombed (Green Lantern film, constant attempts to bring Wonder Woman around have failed). Outside of Batman and Superman (and perhaps Wonder Woman), no one in the general public gives a flying fuck about any other members of this team and most would ask 'Who?' when you mention Martian Manhunter or Antman or whoever the fuck Doctor Fate or Mister Miracle are (Powergirl easily recognisable by her bust).

The boat has been missed to get this together in the same fashion as The Avengers. If they are keen to put this together what is needed is a rebooted Batman film that will tie into the same world as that of the upcoming Man of Steel ASAP. Likewise with Green Lantern (and done so it can be taken seriously and be successful). You have three films then for 3 key members. Once they have been released, THEN look towards a JL film including all those other non-Bats/Supes characters the public have little interest in to appear to do their thing.

OK, first of all, Warners are only rushing this movie into being to try to copy Avengers, but unlike Marvel who took their time they're going to make a mess, but no-one needed me to say that everyone already knew that!

But if DC did want to do a Justice League movie they should look to the Justice League Animated show which started with Martian Manhunter warning Earth of an invasion from Mars, now that made sense because it introduced Manhunter and a villain not only powerful enough to challenge the league but a reason for it's formation!

Warners can get away with a Justice League film but I doubt it will be nearly as good as Avengers

The problem with using X-Men as an example of a formula of a successful team superhero movie is in the fact that almost all the X-Men have the same origin and come from the same place.

They are all normal people who have a mutation that gives them powers. Sure you have a few exceptions like Wolverine but they are all outcasts.

Avengers and JL can't use this formula because their members each have extensive unique backstories and history. Trying to compact and juggle all that backstory and history into one film seems like a recipe for disaster. Who knows though. They might get a clever writer who can make it work.

It's sad for me as a DC gal to see that none of the core members of the JL, save for Bats and we hope Supes (Man of Steel) have gotten decent feature film treatment.  If you can sell people on Thor there is no reason why you can't sell people on Diana AKA Wonder Woman.  There was plenty of momentum and interest in the DC universe after Batman Begins, but again the team working on DC within WB crashed and burned with a haphazard Superman movie. Superman Returns was simply a wasted opportunity to establish a new benchmark before Marvel Phase 1.  Clark Kent works at a NewsPaper there's no reason why there couldn't have been a brief flash of a front page littered with stories about core members of JL and their exploits while Supes was gone.  And no reason why the tone of the movie couldn't have been darker, you had the market research results with Batman Begins, people wanted gritty. Then you have the Dark Knight explosion and what does WB do, they give us the colorful collage of a bad idea that was Green Lantern.  Another missed opportunity as far as I'm concerned.

The problem in my opinion is no one at WB wants or seems to care about thinking outside the box when it comes to the platinum mine they're sitting on.  The only person that did care to think outside the box, produced one of the best Action Thriller Trilogies of all time... There were no loud colors, and no pretty boy emo villains.  Never mind what Marvel is doing, get the old guys out of the damn board room, call up Nolan and come up with a strategy.  Forcing a JL movie now because you think you're behind the eight-ball is just bad business, terribly shortsighted, insulting to the fans of these characters, and downright STUPID.
