The Dark Knight Review

If you have seen
The Dark Knight, you are probably wondering why are you reading this because you should know how AWESOME the movie is already. Well, I'll tell you why you are reading this, because you need help in describing in proper words, how AWESOME The Dark Knight is other than just saying
Wow!, The Dark Knight is AWESOME!".

The Dark Knight is the sequel to
Batman Begins, a movie that attempted to reboot a movie franchise about
Batman, and it was obviously a success. The Dark Knight pretty much picks up where Batman Begins left off, with
James Gordon saying to Batman that his presence will have a profound affect on Gotham City. This being
The Joker. And the affect of Batman's presence is what this whole movie pretty much shows, among other things. How the Joker, criminals, authorities, and citizens are affected by The Batman enforcing his brand of justice on to Gotham City.

The Batman is working overtime to bring an end to crime in Gotham. Not only is he trying to bring an end to crime, but also an end to the necessity of Batman himself so Bruce Wayne can finally live a normal life, most likely with Rachel Dawes. And with the help of James Gordon and District Attorney
Harvey Dent Batman feels that his crusade against crime can come to a rest. Bruce Wayne sees in Harvey Dent as someone who can take his place as Gotham`s hero. A person who Gotham can support and have faith in. However, all things turn to chaos when The Joker throws himself into the picture. Throughout the rest of the movie, it becomes a cat and mouse game for Batman trying to capture the Joker before he causes anymore chaos.

This movie is by far one of the greatest, if not THE greatest accomplishment of The Dark Knight director
Christopher Nolan. He has improved in his way of shooting action sequences and still keeps with the whole constantly moving story and scenes. I understood how some of Batman Begin`s shaky-wild fight scenes with constant cuts might be confusing, but I saw it as a perspective of the criminals and how they are experiencing a force they don`t understand. A frightful and menacing force. But it was still kind of annoying. Credit should also be given to the wonderfully complex and incredible writing, which was also done by Nolan, along with
Jonathan Nolan and
David S. Goyer.

Of course, what movie would be an AWESOME movie unless it had great performances. Perhaps, the person getting the most praise for this movie is the
"late, great, KING, Heath Ledger" - (Co-Host) for his portrayal of The Joker. And he DOES give a great performance as The Joker. Heath shows us a Joker who is determined to bring out the evil and chaos out of everyone. This Joker is a lot more scary and aggressive looking in comparison to other portrayals of the Clown Prince of Crime. A very good way to make the Joker seem like someone who is seriously dangerous. (I personally love his more cheery outward clowny appearance, and his more hideous and heinous acts to come with it. But there will always be a chance for that in future movies).

Christian Bale. Is there any movie where he has not give a great performance? I don't think so! What more can be said about Christian Bale's acting and all that. Bale once again gives another great performance as Bruce Wayne AND Batman (although
Kevin Conroy IS and will always be the voice of Batman).

Another great performance is by
Gary Oldman as James Gordon, Batman's trusted ally. Oldman also portrays Jim Gordon very well. Gordon, who just wants as much peace and justice as Batman, does his best to do what he can to aid in Batman's crusade. Gordon also seems like a man who feels like he has to take a lot of responsibility for the crime and corruption going on in his city. (I found the part where he says "I..have to save Dent" to be a good example of this.)

Other people who also gave good performances where
Michael Caine and
Morgan Freeman as their portrayals of
Alfred Pennyworth and
Lucius Fox, respectively. Alfred acts as a father figure to Bruce. Someone who provides guidance and support.

One role in the I don't hear enough about is
Aaron Eckhart performance as Harrven Dent/Two-Face. Aaron Eckhart's portrayal of Dent's transformation from a man of the people, a man of justice and truth, the White Knight, into the corrupted and mad Two-Face. Harvey Dent's journey into the downward spiral that leads to his madness is an example of how the best of us can lose hope and lose themselves.

Special mention to Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard for their work on
The Dark Knight (soundtrack) and score which helps set the mood of the entire film.

The Dark Knight is a great movie experience. It is full of action, drama, suspense and great performances. This is certainly a must see movie, a you would regret not seeing before you die, a movie you can watch over and over again, and that is probably the best movie, of all movies!
