Yesterday it was announced that Michael Bay is definitely returning to direct 'Transformers 4.' That announcement came courtesy of Bay's producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura who also let slip that the fourth installment of the giant robot franchise would be a reboot. Today, some de facto casting news has surfaced thanks to franchise star Josh Duhamel. At last night's launch party for Sony's PS Vita, Duhamel told E! that he would not be returning for 'Trans4mers,' and seemed fairly certain that no one from the original cast, or at least the cast of 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon,' would be returning either. Here's what he said...
"I don't think anybody's doing it. I know Shia [LaBoeuf]'s not doing it. I don't think Tyrese or Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] or anybody else is doing it. Whenever these movies make that much money they're going to make as many as they can. I haven't heard anything about it. They haven't called me."
At first glance, this would be shocking news, and Duhamel seems put off by not having been called. The fact remains however that, according to Di Bonaventura, the newest Transformers film will be a reboot of the franchise. Reboots often involve entirely new stories with entirely new casts of characters so the fact that they wouldn't be bringing back characters from the first three films is not surprising. I'll be honest, I liked Josh Duhamel in the first three films and I'll be sorry to see him out of the fourth installment. However, I'm not going to pretend that the idea of a complete absence of Shia LaBoeuf in 'Trans4mers' is not a huge enticement for me to see it. So the question now becomes, how will the story be revamped to inject new life into the franchise?
Any ideas from our trusty Spillios?

Comment by SToNe P on February 16, 2012 at 4:05pm You Dumbasses!!! they will always have humans, there was humans in G1,G2, transformers armada, transformers robots in disguise, transformers animated and now transformers prime.the only cartoon that didn't have humans was beast wars and beast machines, So stop the hate for humans in the films fags.
Comment by Killer Yandere on February 16, 2012 at 4:05pm It'll probably be both a sequel and reboot, in the fact it will be set after the first three but involve new human characters
Comment by Joanne on February 16, 2012 at 3:57pm I don't understand how the same director of the first three, can make a reboot. What exactly is he gonna do different? With his style of films, it's still gonna be a mess a film. Should've got a better director instead.
Comment by Fernando Palacios on February 16, 2012 at 3:26pm I don't give a crap, I don't give crap about anything that has to do with transformers anymore
Comment by PoisonPirate on February 16, 2012 at 3:14pm I almost wish Michael was continuing the *ahem* "story" of the first 3 rather than doing a reboot himself.
In a perfect world a competent director would reboot the series and make it half-way decent.
Comment by Hector Fernando Andrade JR. II on February 16, 2012 at 2:57pm Im glad Josh Duhamel turned down whatever amount of money to be in Michael Bay's strange reboot of his awesome Transformers trilogy.
Comment by Hector Fernando Andrade JR. II on February 16, 2012 at 2:50pm Good choice Josh.
Comment by Alexander Orbanic on February 16, 2012 at 2:45pm Just hearing the news sounds bad. Granted I saw all 3 movies because, well what else is there to do, I'm happy that him, laboeuf, and other people are not invovled. If it is involved on cybertron then I might go. Otherwise I saw the same film 3 times already.
Comment by The Dubya on February 16, 2012 at 2:34pm If there were NO humans in this next installment, an ACTUAL screenwriter involved, and just let the Transformers beat each other up in space or what not (it's not like they DON'T have the money to budget it, nor is there really any financial risk since this series is basically licensed-to-print money now), then maaaaaaaaybe I could take this news with a grain of salt and have a tiny iota of hope that this reboot will actually function like a real movie.
But then I came back to reality and went "Oh wait nevermind, Michael Bay is still in charge. GOOD ideas cramp his style!" Now he's just going to get new avatars to smear his fratboy-isms in our faces for 3 hours.
It's going to be an even crappier carbon copy of Transformers 1 and everyone knows it. And everyone will eat it up without even thinking about it. I don't know why you guys keep bothering to ask because anyone with half a braincell knows what to expect.
I do feel kinda sorry for Josh, though. It was either these or crappy rom-coms with Katherine Heigl/Jennifer Aniston. Either ones totally fuck up any serious career you planned on having. Well look on the bright side, Duhamel. At least you haven't hit KATE HUDSON levels yet....
