Josh Duhamel Not Returning For 'Transformers 4'

Yesterday it was announced that Michael Bay is definitely returning to direct 'Transformers 4.' That announcement came courtesy of Bay's producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura who also let slip that the fourth installment of the giant robot franchise would be a reboot. Today, some de facto casting news has surfaced thanks to franchise star Josh Duhamel. At last night's launch party for Sony's PS Vita, Duhamel told E! that he would not be returning for 'Trans4mers,' and seemed fairly certain that no one from the original cast, or at least the cast of 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon,' would be returning either. Here's what he said...

"I don't think anybody's doing it. I know Shia [LaBoeuf]'s not doing it. I don't think Tyrese or Rosie [Huntington-Whiteley] or anybody else is doing it. Whenever these movies make that much money they're going to make as many as they can. I haven't heard anything about it. They haven't called me."

At first glance, this would be shocking news, and Duhamel seems put off by not having been called. The fact remains however that, according to Di Bonaventura, the newest Transformers film will be a reboot of the franchise. Reboots often involve entirely new stories with entirely new casts of characters so the fact that they wouldn't be bringing back characters from the first three films is not surprising. I'll be honest, I liked Josh Duhamel in the first three films and I'll be sorry to see him out of the fourth installment. However, I'm not going to pretend that the idea of a complete absence of Shia LaBoeuf in 'Trans4mers' is not a huge enticement for me to see it. So the question now becomes, how will the story be revamped to inject new life into the franchise?

Any ideas from our trusty Spillios?

I'm Canadian so I'll say it: Beast Wars. Throw them on a new planet sans humans and make them transform into animals instead of vehicles. Make it happen.

At one point can someone explain why the Transformers movies made SO much money! Write on my wall, take up as much space as you need!

Reboot eh?  Has potential.  Oh wait, Michael Bay is back directing?  Never mind then.

Total bullshit that Michael Bay is back directing.

Why Michael Bay?

Somebody needs to reboot Michael Bay.  Somebody else needs to reboot Transformers.

Can we stop making transformers movies?... please?... We've have 3 in the past 4 years and its honestly getting old. Its like vampire movies, there are so many now that people just sigh when they see a new one coming out in a trailer.

However, if they really are going to make another, I want to see it all on Cybertron. I want it to show the origin of the civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons, I want to see some character and emotion and true acting from the transformers themselves. I honestly don't want a single human character to be in this next movie.

How could it be a reboot if the guy who directed the first three films is going to direct this one. That seems a bit redundant. The same director who took the franchise in one direction is supposed to venture it in a different one next time around? Pardon my skepticism.

sooo if its a reboot then how come its being called trans4mers? doesnt the 4 make it a sequel?
