Joseph Gordon-Levitt Signs On To 'Sin City 2'

2012 was a mammoth year for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and ever since, he's become the prettiest girl at the dance...figuratively speaking. Of all the projects he's been vetting, it seems the young actor will next appear in Robert Rodriguez's 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For,' which is being co-directed by 'Sin City' graphic novel creator Frank Miller. JGL will play Johnny, a smooth gambler said to be a central character. The part was originally offered to Johnny Depp. Gordon-Levitt joins a cast that includes returning players Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba, and Rosario Dawson as well as series noobs like Dennis Haysbert (filling in for the late Michael Clarke Duncan). 'A Dame to Kill For' is slated for an October 4th release.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a popular guy in movie news these days. In fact, it seemed there wasn't a single role in a single project for which he wasn't reported as being in consideration. Many of these reports turned out to be, shall we say, hasty assumptions or half-truths. The Star-Lord thing is looking less and less likely, and almost immediately after the news that Frank Darabont would be rewriting Gareth Edwards' 'Godzilla,' suddenly rumors surfaced that he was in line to star in that as well; file that away in the "believe it when I see it" drawer. It's nice to finally be keyed into one of his confirmed gigs. Gordon-Levitt has quickly become one of my favorite actors and I couldn't be more thrilled that the work keeps rolling in for him. It's been a long time since I've read the 'Sin City' books, but I don't recall the Johnny character. It's strange that the original source listed him as a central character. Perhaps one the Spillio faithful, who has read these books more recently, can fill me in on this character's contribution to the 'Dame to Kill For' storyline.

Update: According to a press release from Dimension, it now looks like Josh Brolin has been brought aboard as well. He'll actually be replacing Clive Owen as Dwight. This makes sense considering 'A Dame To Kill For' takes place after the events of the first movie, and after Dwight has had extensive plastic surgery. In addition, 'Law & Order: SVU's Christopher Meloni has also joined the cast. Details on his part are being kept under wraps, but we do know he'll be playing a cop.

What do you guys think? Happy JGL is coming aboard the next 'Sin City?' How do you feel about Brolin taking over for Clive Owen as Dwight?

When The Spill Crew posts something and use "I", who do we assume is writing the piece? This always confused me.

I'll believe it when I see a trailer they've been making this movie since I was in high school....

Damn I really liked Owen in the first film but seeing as he undergoes plastic surgery I guess they cant use him again, Hopefully Brolin can bring the same kind of performance if not better.

If my sin city fandom serves me well I think A Dame to Kill for is the 2nd story in the series' chronology, the very first story being Hartigan's. Josh Brolin as Dwight is a good pick seeing as he gets plastic surgery that serves as his appearance for the rest of the series... Idk, Brolin and Owens voices are super different tho lol

Interesting...

Rodriguez isn't too good at coming up with character names, seeing that he wrote the part of Buscemi in Desperado for... Steve Buscemi. So hearing that Johnny Depp was considered, it leads me to believe that Johnny is a new character.

Where's my detective medal?!

I bet Chris O'Donnell is jealous of Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

I want Joseph to star in a Pixar or DreamWorks animation movie next.

Ever since The Dark Knight Rises, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's good movie career has taken one MEGA boost. Congrats to Joseph :)
