Who knows what to believe anymore, right? As soon as something looks like it's a sure thing, the rug can be so cruelly ripped out from under us. Such is the case with a story that was making the rounds a couple of days ago regarding who would play the new Batman in the mammoth superhero collaboration that is Warner Brothers' 'Justice League.' Less than 48hrs ago, one source seemed pretty confident, having talked to someone at WB, that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be playing the caped crusader in the JLA movie. TDKR SPOILER AHEAD! This would of course make sense considering where his John Blake character ends up at the end of 'The Dark Knight Rises.' It was said the first introduction of Gordon-Levitt as Batman would be a cameo in Zack Snyder's 'Man of Steel.' Now however, JGL's reps are vehemently denying that he will be playing Bats at all. 'Justice League' is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2015.
I can't really make heads or tails of this whole situation. On the one hand, if the reps themselves deny a rumor, then that should be enough to ensure that rumor is thoroughly debunked, but why so vehemently deny a rumor that represents something so monumentally positive for their client? Methinks the publicist doth protest too much. It would make complete sense that JGL would be the JLA's Batman. Warner Brothers is still smitten with the Christopher Nolan universe incarnation of Batman and Gordon-Levitt was presented in the ending of 'TDKR' to be the one taking up the cowl. Not to mention the fact that we're on the doorstep of 2013 and very little is solidly in place for this enormous superhero undertaking set for 2015. The original report actually indicated that JGL would be playing Batman in a solo piece even before 'Justice League,' but that seems to have been debunked now as well. Ok then, industry peeps. If not Joseph Gordon-Levitt, then whom?! Let's get something concrete on paper, because right now I have serious doubts as to whether this thing is going to be able to effectively come together.
What do you guys think? Bummed JGL won't be Batman in 'Justice League?' Do we believe his reps denial? Do you still believe they'll be able to get this thing out by 2015?

It would be stupid. Because the ending to DKR MAKES NO DAMN SENSE!
Oh THANK GOD!!!
Comment by Robert Wild on November 28, 2012 at 7:38pm Look, the Dark Knight Trilogy is my favorite trilogy of ALL TIME! That being said, I really think they should leave those movies alone. In the DC comics, there are multiple realities and story's. This is just an else-world story to me. The Dark Knight Rises wraped up the trilogy so well, and part of the fun of the ending is that we don't know what will happen next, I like not knowing EVERYTHING. Will John Blake become Robin? Nightwing? Batman? Or an entirely new character? We, don't know, but I like to use my imagination! All we know is he will pick up the mantle in some way, shape or form.
Also, I just don't see anyone in Justice League than, well, Bruce Wayne. Christian Bale was great, but I want to see someone new. It's ok to reboot! I want to see a new take and new ideas, and forcibly trying to continue Nolan's series just isn't necessary. Besides, Nolan is DONE. Without him, the movies would feel different anyway. Remember what happend when Joel Schumacher tried to continue Tim Burton's series? Yeah, that went well...
Point is, Dark Knight Rises was a great wrap up to that trilogy, but I really just want it to be left alone. And a Justice League just doesn't fit with Nolan's universe. Batman is my favorite superhero, and I would like to see them try to do something new, as opposed to ackwardly trying to continue Nolan's series, it just isn't necessary. Besides, you either die a trilogy, or you live long enough to see yourself become Batman and Robin...
Comment by adam on November 28, 2012 at 7:05pm um...Fungusmonkey there was a run in the comics recently where Dick Grayson was batman for some time, however Bruce is back in the cowl again, but then again JGL did not play Dick Grayson he played, Robin Johnathon Blake(that was stupid way to do it) Besideds its to early for a justice leagure film anyway, they still have to make some quality solo films for the other DC charecters in the founding Justice League as not that many people outside of the comic book fan community(and that includes fans of the DC cartoon shows which are pretty damn great) know about them. The general audience probably does not know about The Martian Manhunter, they barely know about green lanterns(plus that movie made it hard for many to get in to it, or at least in my neck of the woods) and not that many general audience respect wonderwoman. Now if they did go the marvel route and did some solo films about the justice league members, then that would be good, but honestly we do not need a reboot of batman to tie in with it, as everybody knows who and what batman is (but I'd still watch them because I love batman) the best thing to do is to do The Man of Steel films, do a wonder woman solo film (with a cameo from Supes near the end) Do a reboot/sequel to the Green Lantern (which was not good, but not terrible) Do a martian Manhunter film (with a cameo from GL) a world's finest movie to show superman and batman working together, and do a Flash movie. That would be a good way to get to a Justice League Film...now who the vilian would be? not sure.

Comment by chubblicious on November 28, 2012 at 3:31pm Good, he wouldn't work in it, they need to separate the nolan universe with the actual DC JLA universe.
