John Leguizamo Lands Roles In 'The Counselor' And 'Kick-Ass 2'

Talk about having a good day, actor John Leguizamo just landed roles in two upcoming high-profile films. After lending his voice to yet another 'Ice Age' film this year, Leguizamo's 2013 will now include working with Ridley Scott in 'The Counselor' and appearing in 'Kick-Ass 2.' For 'The Counselor,' he'll be playing a low-level drug dealer. That film represents novelist Cormac McCarthy's first original screenplay. In 'Kick-Ass 2,' Leguizamo will play, Javier, a bodyguard assigned to protect fledgling villain The Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). Reportedly Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, and Nicolas Cage are all returning for the sequel. Leguizamo also recently made a deal to star in the pilot 'Only Fools and Horses' for ABC.

Not exactly sure how to feel about this news. On the one hand, Leguizamo is not my favorite actor. However, that's largely a product of the films in which he has appeared, and many times an actor's career can stray far from their control. So it's not always fair to judge a performer's abilities based on the roles he's able to land. That being said, I think the sour taste of some of his work in the 90s still lingers in the mouths of many movie-goers. I am interested to see what he's able to do with a McCarthy-scripted, Scott-directed film. Great directors tend to elicit great performances. I'm also really excited for 'Kick-Ass 2' and love the idea of Leguizamo playing the heavy, if only because the only person next to whom he could conceivably look tough in that movie would be Mintz-Plasse.

What do you guys think? Any Leguizamo fans out there want to sound off about these gigs? Did they make the right casting choice?

They're remaking the classic British series Only Fools and Horses...? Ugh.

He actually has some pretty solid acting skills independently speaking of the choice of movies he decides to get involved in (I guess you could say he is through and through a working actor);  I think he did a pretty good job as Clown/Violator in Spawn (although the movie as a whole hasn't held up well to the passing of time).  I am actually excited to see him working in bigger projects..

I've always hated this actor, but it's clear he doesn't go out side of strange comedies. But I am interested on both films.

I've always liked this actor but it's clear he doesn't have a lot of range.
