Joel Silver Eyes New 'Ben 10' Film Franchise

Source: Variety

Mega producer Joel Silver is looking for the next big franchise, and he's currently eyeing a live-action feature film adaptation of Cartoon Network's popular cartoon series 'Ben 10'. One of the highest rated cartoon series on the network, the franchise has spawned legions of merchandise and three different television series, as well as two live-action made-for-TV movies. The show focuses on Ben Tennyson who, with the help of an alien device called the Omnitrix, can mutate into 10 different species of alien, each with their own personality and powers. Along with his cousin Gwen and his Grandpa Max (who happens to know a bit more about aliens than he lets on), Ben decides to use his powers to help those in need and fight the evil alien conqueror Vilgax.

There is no word on whether Silver's film franchise would focus on the younger, goofier 'Ben 10' from the first series, or the further adventures of a (comparatively) more mature teenaged Ben like in the two later series 'Ben 10: Alien Force' and 'Ben 10: Ultimate Alien'. "I think we have to try something fresh and go at it in a way that stays true to the original material," Silver said. "I tried to do [something similar] with 'Speed Racer' and failed miserably... you always learn more from the ones that don't work than the ones that do."

Silver's company Dark Castle will be producing the film (and possibly any further installments in the franchise should it prove to be a hit) and have announced plans to completely recast the big screen version from the previous TV movies. Silver has his sights set on Warner Bros to distribute the film, and is currently searching for a writer for the project.

How the hell can anyone say it's a copy of Green Lantern? Ben 10 has almost nothing in common with GL other than the fact they wear green.

That being said, Ben 10 was the only good Ben 10 Series... Alien Force and Ultimate Alien are god awful..

@Sumildon

1) Can't dock Yogi Bear since I haven't seen it.

2) TMNT honestly hasn't aged well.

3) Since when was Hook based on a cartoon? You know there was a book and plays before that Disney flick, right?

4) Popeye is a solid point. No argument there.

@Tommy  Yogi Bear, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hook, Popeye.  And some (like me) would argue Transformers 1. So it is possible.  Don't knock it.

Name me a few decent live action films based on cartoons and this adaptation will make sense.
