Javier Bardem In Talks For 'Despicable Me 2'

'No Country For Old Men' star Javier Bardem is currently in negotiations with Universal Studios to provide the voice for the main villain in the follow-up to their surprise 2010 hit, 'Despicable Me 2'. The first film, which earned over $540 million worldwide, centered around the curmudgeonly vaguely east-European villain Gru (played by a heavily accented Steve Carell) whose plans for world dominance are upended when three orphan girls come under his care. Most of the original cast is expected to return for the sequel.

If signed, Bardem would play the new villain El Macho, who apparently also has a young son named Machito. While plot details are being kept under wraps, it's possible that a burgeoning rivalry between their young children could be what pits the two nefarious foes against each other. Or vice-versa - perhaps it is their paternal competition that spills over into their children's lives. Reuniting 'Despicable Me' director Pierre Coffin and writer Ken Daurio, 'Despicable Me 2' is set to arrive in theaters on July 3rd, 2013.

I hope his character in the film has the same hair cut as he did in NCFOM.

Sure why not, the first film was actually adorable

Well it is a chance for him to experiment. Could be worth a watch when it comes it if he accepts.

Interesting though to be fair could kinda care less. I'm also in the group of people who think Despicable Me is Extremely over-rated. It's good and cute and all, but god damn it wasn't that great to the point some people treat it like it's the best animated movie of 2010.

I just think it's weird cause Javier Bardem is the last person I would expect to be casted in an animated movie like this.

Hope it's as good as the first. I was pleasantly surprised with the first one

Despicable Me is overratted. And Javier Bardem is just too scary to be in its sequel.

Javier, maybe this time you should make a movie called "No Country for old men: What the fuck actually happened".
