A bit late to this party, I've not long watched the film. But I just wanted to say that the criticisim of Jane not being "erotic" enough or appealing is completely wrong. If you'd read the book you would know that Jane was never any of those, she was always repressed, internal, always the 'plain Jane.' Watch some of the other adaptations of the story and you'd see the same pattern in the performances of the central character. The problem I had with the film was it felt like peices were missing, and I wasn't wholly convinced with the chemistry of Jane and Edward. The best chemistry I've seen was between Samantha Morton and Ciaran Hinds.

'The Train That Tried'...always my favorite children's book. Right up there with 'The Sacrificing Shrub'

However, I do agree with Korey, the resolution is a little too clean, a little too dialogue-y: could've used a few more minutes of the Jamaican wife or a short, short flashback.

Cyrus, what the fuck man. You always get it right but not here...Jane Eyre is supposed to be 100% plain, her attractiveness is her personality, her demeanor, her actions. It's not supposed to be sexy or erotic whatsoever...That's why Rochester is drawn to her - he doesn't need some exotic, erotic beauty, that's the whole point of the book! The first time he went for an exotic beauty he got fucked over!

Jane is not supposed to be erotic - that is not Rochester's obsession with her. Read the book. It's difficult to assume things about the characters just based off of what this movie presents. It's really about her innocence and her youth... At least that's what I remember. Haven't read this for a while myself. She's not supposed to be big-busted and voluptuousness. And Rochester is not supposed to be hot, as he is presented. They belong together because what they are for each other wouldn't really be suited for everyone.

UUUUUGHHHHHHHH! I'm sorry maybe it was the film was presented itself, because those two were meant for each other, other adaptations probably show this much better especially the 2005 made for TV version.

No, Cyrus, no, No, Mia is perfect for the role because that's how it is in the book, I've read it a couple of years ago and the way she acts in the movie is totally in line. Every actress who play that role in different versions play it that way. And its the VICTORIAN AGE, FOR CRYIN' OUT LOUD!!! Geez, for someone who thinks who's smart, you sure don't act like it at times.
