Once it was verified that Marc Webb would indeed be coming back to direct the sequel to 'The Amazing Spider-Man,' quickly more and more of the essential pieces began to fall into place. Mary Jane was revealed to have a part in the film, quickly followed by news of actress Shailene Woodley ('The Descendants') being cast in the role. Then it was rumored that Electro could just be the villain. Now it looks like we may have not only confirmation of our villain, but also an idea of the actor who might play him. According to reports, Jamie Foxx is in early talks to play Electro in the upcoming superhero sequel. The Spidey baddie is also known as as Max Dillon, an electrical engineer turned human electric capacitor by a lighting strike. It seemed a fragile whisper of a rumor at first until both a quote from Webb himself and a tweet from Foxx added some measure of validity. Webb had this to say at a press event for the first film's Blu-ray release...
"I think Jamie Foxx is electrifying! I think Jamie Foxx is one of the best actors around today. He's such a great character actor and he's a really brilliant guy. I would love to work with him and you'll be hearing more on that shortly, I'm sure."
Then Foxx tweeted...
"Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well."
First and foremost, it should be addressed that it is entirely possible that both Foxx and Webb were merely riffing off the rumor, and jabbing at the nature of internet buzz altogether. However, it does pose the question as to whether Foxx, who has never managed to appear in a superhero film before, is right for the role of Electro. For my money, the answer is yes. I dig the hell out of Foxx as both a legitimate actor and a blockbuster screen presence. The choice to make Electro the bad guy in the first place initially seemed odd to me. Admittedly an ignorant novice, I was always under the impression that Electro was a second-tier villain. However, given that his earliest roots involve both Stark Industries and Magneto, it's not hard to see how a gap-bridging character like this would be attractive to the Marvel empire even when considering that Spider-Man is still at Columbia/Sony. I hope this becomes official soon and we can start talking about how Electro will be working into the plot.
What do you guys think? Is Jamie Foxx right for the role? Are you happy that it looks like they are going with Electro?

Comment by Jinx on November 4, 2012 at 11:33am I have nothing against Jamie Foxx I think he is a very good actor. BUT WHAT THE FUCK IS WEBB THINKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought this was the darker more gritty spiderman not the GOD DAMN Sam Raimi movies. I mean what the fuck. again love Jamie Foxx he is a very funny and talented actor, but come on we need someone who can play a super villain. And to be honest I don't know who could play Electro. And I'm a huge Electro fan he is classic spiderman badguy.
Comment by adam on November 4, 2012 at 9:49am Electro is one of the lamest spidey vilians ever.
Comment by Absinthe Minded on November 3, 2012 at 11:47pm I heard a similar rumor a few years ago when they were saying Eddie Murphy was to be The Riddler in The Dark Knight. Didn't even remotely happen. I doubt this will either. Electro just sounds dumb anyway.

Comment by John Lemus on November 3, 2012 at 7:55pm Ok someone is doing a lot of crack if they think this is a good idea
Jamie Foxx is a horrible, One good movie does not make him a good actor. To me he will always be the Jamie Foxx from booty call. I can't stand his movies. Him and Octavia Spencer.
