There was not a typo in that title, according to
The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel has negotiated with Samuel L. Jackson to reprise his cameo role as Nick Fury in a whopping
nine films! The actor was reported as having a fallout with Marvel execs over the role a few weeks ago, but it now appears he's back on the train and he's in it for the long haul.
Jackson is now confirmed to play as the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the upcoming
Iron Man 2,
Thor,
The First Avenger: Captain America, and the pièce de résistance:
The Avengers . Also, depending on each film's success, Jackson would appear in their respective sequels. There are now even talks of fully-fledged S.H.I.E.L.D. film with him as the headliner.
Now this deal is unprecedented, and to my knowledge, unheard of ever in the history of the Hollywood scene. Actors have usually committed to two or three movies occasionally, and many big name actors sign contracts that stipulate they would return for a potential sequel. But to appear in nine films right off the bat is a different story entirely. Will Jackson become the face kids will remember as the symbol of Marvel? Can he actually pull off staring as the same role in nine films? Will any of these films benefit from his presence? Ladies and gentlemen, the floor is now open...
