'Jack The Giant Killer' Gets New Title And Release Date

The film industry is such a bizarre creature. The constant release date shuffling has become akin to the most expensive form of three-card monte, and it's all an effort to minimize competition. The latest traveling release is Bryan Singer's 'Jack the Giant Killer.' This re-imagining of the classic fairy tale 'Jack and the Beanstalk' will star Nicholas Hoult ('X-Men: First Class') as Jack and the impressive cast is rounded out by the likes of Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy, Ian McShane, and Warwick Davis. Originally the film was supposed to be a part of this summer's slate, slated for a June 15th, 2012 release. But like 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation,' it was pushed back to 2013. It's new date was holding at March 22nd. Now it seems the movie will actually get a three-week bump up to March 1st of next year. Not only that, but Singer's movie will now be called 'Jack the Giant Slayer.'

So another release date shuffle and a change in title? Is this even going to be the same movie we saw the trailer for last year? Let's see, it was going up against Dreamworks' 'The Croods' and Somali pirate drama 'Captain Phillips' starring Tom Hanks. Now it must contend with Chan-wook Park's horror thriller 'Stoker' and Relativity Media's comedy '21 and Over.' It's actually not a bad move. Animated films are usually big draws, as is Tom Hanks. However, March isn't exactly the best month for horror so 'Jack the Giant Slayer' should have no problem taking the weekend. As to the title alteration, my issue isn't so much with what they changed it to as much as when they changed it. This movie has been in the can for a while and if there was some problem with the title, why is it only now that they are noticing and doing something about it? The more this thing changes and moves around, the less interested I become in seeing it.

What do you guys think? Good move for 'Jack the Giant Slayer?' What do you think of the new title?

Jack the Giant Killer was a classic movie about Jack fighting giants many years after his beanstalk adventure, I had assumed that the Bryan Singer film was a remake, the new title makes sense provided it's not a remake at all if it is a remake it makes no sense!

Also why was Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland sequel named Alice in Wonderland and why was The Thing prequel named The Thing! Sort it out!

Giant Slayer sounds lame.

I prefer that other Jack film, the one that painted him (rightly) as a stealing ass-hat, who ruined a fantasy land and it was left to his modern-day descendant to clean up his mess.

The name change is also stupid. I thought 'Jack the Giant Killer' had a nice flow to it.

What I want to know is what its budget is. Because I'm not gonna lie, I'd be concerned if I were that company.

I'm still excited for the movie, but I do not like the name chance. I think they changed it to Slayer, because Slayer implies that he's killing something bad. I think that they were thinking that Slayer would be more "PC". For those who think that, I'd like to see their face when they listen to the band Slayer.

Saw this at a pre-screening, and a majority of us put down Jack the Giant Killer instead of Slayer....figured it might have been a flyer typo but looks like they've went ahead with the name change.

I guess people thought Jack the Giant Killer would make too many people think Jack a gigantic serial murderer.

Lost interest when I saw the trailer long ago...lost more interest when it never came out and I wasnt surprised because it knew there were MUCH better movies out...and now totally dont give a shit and not going to waste my time on this. not because it moves and changes so much...no just cause it looks like garbage.
