J.J. Abrams And Edgar Wright Teaming Up For 'Collider'

J.J. Abrams and Edgar Wright are two filmmakers with formidable legions of fans, and deservedly so. Abrams of course created 'Lost,' and 'Alias' as well as directing the wildly successful 'Star Trek' reboot, while Wright gave us the likes of 'Shaun of the Dead,' 'Hot Fuzz,' and 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.' Now it appears these two titans of geekery are joining forces for 'Collider.' Little is known about the Paramount project other than that it will be a sci-fi film that Wright will direct and Abrams will produce through Bad Robot. Wright is co-writing the film with 'I Am Legend's Mark Protosevich. Abrams is currently finishing up 'Star Trek 2' while Wright is working on the finale of the Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy with 'The World's End' starring, once again, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Obviously I am excited about this, because I am a movie geek with a pulse. How could you not be thrilled by a Abrams/Wright team-up? True, Abrams is merely producing, but that does little to curb my enthusiasm. It will obviously be more exciting to talk about this project once we have the slightest inkling as to what it's about. My only concern for 'Collider' is that I hope that it does not interfere with 'Ant-Man.' Wright's long-gestating contribution to the Marvel film canon is still very much in the fetal stages, he just showed test footage during Comic-Con, and I am concerned that he will try to squeeze in 'Collider' between 'The World's End' and 'Ant-Man;' further delaying the latter. It's crazy because I'm not even a big fan of the character, but I'm desperately intrigued by what Wright might do with him.

What do you guys think? Are you excited for 'Collider?' Do you think Wright is spreading himself too thin?

Awesome! Now, can Marvel get Abrams to direct GotG?

I guess the timing has to do with a few things.  First, how far along is "The World's End?" Second, when is Marvel planning on finishing "Phase 2" of Avengers?  If the former is almost done, and there's another three or four years before Avengers 2, I think there will be plenty of time for him to get all of the movies done without having to rush them.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

@nerdilicouse?! Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like Antman is a project that Edgar Wright wants to direct, and if it's something he wants to do, as opposed to something he was just hired to do, it means that he has ideas that he thinks will make the character interesting.  Considering his track record, I see no reason to write off Antman if he indeed is doing it as a passion project.

YES, YES, YES. This can really help Wright grow as a director with JJ as his mentor. And the two have interesting visual story telling styles. But yeah, I am concerned with the status of ANT MAN. I am almost 59, have been a movie eek for all my life, have recently rediscovered my childhood love of comics and graphic novels and I am charged watching the new growth of creativity in both medias.

WOOT. I am so damn excited for this. Edgar Wright is one of those few guys who've done nothing I haven't absolutely loved.

Oh no! This is fantastic news but I just hope Wright isn't over extending himself. No tears I will shed if this gets cancelled so he can finish "The World's End" and "Ant-Man."

You know, there are times where you shrug off news and then there are times where you cry in bleeping joy for something that you have little information about. THIS IS ONE OF THOSE!

J.J Abrams, Edgar Wright, Mark Protosevich, and Bad Robot the company?!!!!!!!

This movie is going to be a nerd dream come true with quick dialogue, fast editing, lens flare, and an Italian composer!
