Is 'Super Troopers 2' A Reality Or Just Shenanigans?

It's been quite a while since we've paid a visit to the Spurbury Highway Patrol and its various goofball officers. For a while meow, there have been whispers of a sequel to the 2001 cult classic 'Super Troopers,' but nothing concrete has turned up in the over ten years hence. In a recent interview, Broken Lizard founding member Jay Chandrasekhar (who directed the film as well as portrayed senior officer Thorny) revealed that 'Super Troopers 2' is far more than just a rumor. Here's what he said...

"We're hoping to make 'Super Troopers 2' as a group if we can work out a legal situation with Fox Searchlight. They're into, they like it. We have an issue with the first film and the accounting so if that can all be resolved, I think we'll end up making it."

There are always two questions to ask when we get whiff of an in development sequel, especially to a film that's seen a many years since its release. The first is whether or not it will actually happen. Chandrasekhar isn't just stating that he would be interested in doing a sequel, that kind of comment is easy and fleeting. He goes so far as to say the studio likes the idea, likes the script even, and notes a legal issue that is currently holding it up; meaning he's checked into it. I don't think it's outside the realm of possibility that we could see another 'Super Troopers,' especially if Broken Lizard's latest film 'The Babymakers' does well. Now, as to the second question, I don't know that I would want to see a sequel. I feel like the compartmentalized story, and of course the quotable quips, is what made 'Super Troopers' so funny and so memorable. I'm not sure there's much more comedy to be mined without resorting to that exact same formula. My great fear is that it would be a 'Hangover 2' situation wherein all the comedic beats would be repeated.

What do you guys think? Would you go see a 'Super Troopers 2?' Anyone suddenly thirsty for a litre of cola?

BECAUSE of it's nature as just one case these oddballs get, a sequel is well worth a look. Provided of course they take the time to have ALL new jokes with very little callbacks.

Those are the last two sentences in the paragraph, "Joshua Balcombe".

...and yes, I'm fucking serious with this name, deal with it.

Out of all the mediocre films and tv series that get rebooted or a unwanted sequel/prequel why can't they give us one we'd actually want to see! If they get the original cast to sign on I'd definitely will be there opening night to see the Highway Patrol at its best =D.

@ Eric

You said butt fuck. Heh. Anyway, I would really like to see a sequel to both Super Troopers and Beerfest. I love both of them and the BL cast members are awesome!

I would love to see a sequel that was just as funny as the original...

I still fine myself watching the entire movie if I catch it on TV. Sure I would love to see a sequel, but if they screw it up we'll just never mention it again.
