We've often said, out of bitterness and spite, that there is nothing Hollywood won't reheat, repackage, and shove into production if there is any money left to be made. This certainly seemed to be the motivating factor behind 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull;' or at least the only motive that makes any sense. So I'd hazard few of us were surprised when a buzz developed shortly thereafter for the prospect of a fifth Indiana Jones movie. We assumed it would star Harrison Ford again, but perhaps would instead focus on Shia LaBeouf's character, to whom the mantle was symbolically passed. We dreaded it, but then it stalled. However, the threat of this misguided plan loomed. Now according to mega-producer Frank Marshall (who produced, among many other things, all of the previous Indy films), we may finally be able to breathe easy. He casts his doubts on the likelihood of ever seeing another Indiana Jones outing in a recent interview...

“I say, for me, [Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is] the last hurrah.  I know that yes, we talk about it, but there’s no idea, there’s no MacGuffin.”

Look, part of us is always going to want more Indiana Jones stories. That character, and more specifically Harrison Ford's inhabiting of that character, is an indelible aspect of many of our own personal geekdoms. But at some point, we have to be willing to let things go. For me, when Indiana Jones rode off into the sunset at the end of 'Last Crusade,' that journey was over. As bad as 'Crystal Skull' was, I understand why some still defend it, still hold fast to any good that they can possibly mine from it, because it was, for many of us, the first Indiana Jones story of our grown up existence. I am relieved to read these comments from Marshall, and I hope he is sincere. As much as I may want more from Dr. Jones, Ford's window to logistically play that character is fast closing and there is no need to drag this thing out to a sad, pathetic conclusion. I won't cheer, I won't dance vulgarly in glee at the death of 'Indy 5.' I'll simply breathe a sigh of relief.

What do you guys think? Could a fifth Indiana Jones have worked? Don't you think it's better to let this go?

there is no need to go back to Indy, we have had our fun, we will always love it, but lets end things before they go very very bad.

Most likely it would star Shia LeBeouf so I say thank god that it won't get made.

Personally, I kinda am hoping they'll change there minds on Indy5. I want the series to go out on a film that veryone likes

The series always had better success with Christian relics.  I would say, the Spear of Destiny (aka Longinus), Noah's Ark, Garden of Eden, etc.  There are many things/places that Indy can go after.  To say that there is no MacGuffins left of interest would be a comment made in haste.
