English Motherfucker posted a statusThe validity of movie news sources is a constant issue with this job. When, for example, certain characters are rumored to be resurfacing from one superhero movie to the next, it's usually sensational enough to warrant jumping on even if the source is a bit dubious. An official casting call sheet for 'Iron Man 3' has recently surfaced, announcing that the third installment of the Iron Man franchise - this time directed by Shane Black ('Kiss Kiss Bang Bang') - will once again star Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark and Don Cheadle will continue his stint as Rhodey Rhodes. However, there were apparently rumors circulating that The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) might be killed off in Joss Whedon's upcoming ensemble superhero epic 'The Avengers', but the cast sheet clearly lists her as also appearing in 'Iron Man 3'. That bit of casting news is being cited as evidence that the rumor of Black Widow's demise has been "officially" debunked.
Yeah, except that there is no definite timeline established by this report. Just because 'Iron Man 3' is being released after 'The Avengers,' doesn't mean the film's timeline will be constructed to follow those events. Shane Black has already made it quite clear that 'Iron Man 3' will be a self-contained story featuring no other characters from 'The Avengers.' There have been reports that Shane Black, who is also co-writing the script with Drew Pearce, will be fashioning the script largely out of elements of Warren Ellis' 'Extremis' storyline, which involves Stark injecting himself with nanotechnology that allows him the advantages of cyborg-like attributes without his having to don the Iron Man suit. Given that 'Extremis' takes place between the formation of The Avengers and the 'Civil War' storyline, it would make sense to assume Black Widow must survive 'The Avengers.' However, as we've seen countless times before, the 'Extremis' canon can be altered for the screen. Case in point, I don't recall Black Widow being a part of the 'Extremis' storyline to begin with so already liberties are being taken. Plus, the 'Extremis' rumor itself is uncomfirmed. I guess what I'm saying is, anything can yet happen.
What do you guys think? How does the knowledge that Black Widow will be in 'Iron Man 3' affect your desire to see it? Could she still die?

Comment by Gift of the Magi on March 28, 2012 at 9:30am Case in Point: Black Widow was BARELY ever an Avenger. Her stints rarely lasted a year, and would have 3-15 year haitus in-between before rejoining.
The only reason she exists is that some fapping producer thinks you MUST have T&A to sell films. No Exceptions.

Comment by randy on March 27, 2012 at 12:53pm I really don't give a shit, she's hot as hell, but I have no emotional attachment to her in these movies.
Kill Her!
Comment by Travis Pickle on March 27, 2012 at 12:14pm forgot she was even in it, actually forgot pretty much everything about IM2 except for a F1 car getting cut in half and Ironman pissing in his suit
;(
IM2 missed out on a possibly hilarious scene with the 2 "Russian" characters actually having a conversation with each other in "Russian". I would have rolled down the isles and gave them more money to see it again. But alas...
Comment by Dilster3000 on March 27, 2012 at 10:09am Take Black Widow out of Iron Man 2. Same movie.

Comment by Bang It Out on March 27, 2012 at 12:32am Don't get me wrong, I've always liked Black Widow as a character. But I find her role in The Avengers to just be sort of ridiculous. In Iron Man 2 she was completely forgettable, and in every Avengers trailer she's posing against an exploding background holding her little pea-shooters while everyone else is kicking ass. Her usefulness just seems kind've iffy. We'll see what she does when The Avengers comes out, but until then I say kill her if it makes sense in the story. I'm betting her demise won't make a lick of difference.
