Wow, big day for villains. Fresh on the heels of the announcement that Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to play a, if not the, villain in Alan Taylor's 'Thor 2,' Marvel has further announced that Ashley Hamilton ('Sunset Beach') is in talks to appear as Firepower in 'Iron Man 3.' For awhile now we've known that Sir Ben Kingsley would be playing the big villain, and may or may not be Mandarin, but Firepower will purportedly also be giving Tony Stark headaches in Shane Black's upcoming film. Firepower, as I've only just found out, is a test pilot who worked on an armored suit project for a Stark rival and ended up butting metallic heads with the genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. Hamilton is the son of actor George Hamilton and the stepson of musician Rod Stewart.
Wow, is it just me or is this thoroughly underwhelming news? I don't profess to know a lot about Iron Man, but Firepower is not what I would call a top tier villain. So it would seem the best way to make this a big deal for the movie would be to cast a fantastic and/or well-known actor in the part and elevate it to something special. Instead, they cast a guy I'd venture to say no one has heard of. With Kingsley on board, I'd hazard Firepower won't get a lot of screen time, but it still seems like an ill-advised addition. As has been said again and again, the plot of 'Iron Man 3' will be based on Warren Ellis' 'Extremis' storyline, which makes this piece of news even more confusing. Firepower is a character connected not with 'Extremis,' but with 'Armor Wars.' Seriously, what is going on with the additional characters in this? First Savin and now Firepower? It's like a who's who of...who cares. They need to tread lightly, one more villain and they're in danger of crossing into 'Spider-Man 3' territory.
What do you guys think? Any die hard Firepower fans out there? Do you see a troubling pattern developing here?

Comment by Kingzley Sparkman on May 27, 2012 at 7:06pm I just watched Scott Pilgrim vs. The World again today and I think a movie can have more than one villain. Spiderman 3 just did not present them the right way. Plus I'm expecting to see more War Machine so we may see two-on-two fights. I'd like that.
Firepower will probably be a fodder villain in the beginning of the movie or something
Comment by Ghoulprototype on May 26, 2012 at 8:04am Why does everyone and their grandma start to get Iron Man type suits? That's what....6 guys from all 3 of the films to develop these things. It kinda loses the novelty of Iron Mans "powers" if everyone else can make one too. I'm not going to write it off before I see it but I would like for them to stop with the Iron Man villains with power suits or its going to look less like Iron Man and more like a Gundam spin off.....

Comment by Dr.DeadVortex on May 25, 2012 at 9:38pm Don't see,why people are complaining so much,We haven't even got a trailer or know what the story is about.Just because the film has a few more villains and aren't as well know as some of his other villains. This is kinda of a good sign, they aren't just throwing in popular villains like what they did in Spider-Man 3.Let's just try to reserve judgement until we see a Trailer or know what the story is about.
