In Honor of " Drag Me To Hell", My Review of Evil Dead

The awesome poster for Evil Dead (DUH!)

Its a very rare occasion when I enjoy a horror movie so much. In fact, if someone asked me to make a top 10 (or even top 5!) list of horror films, i couldn't tell you. It's just not my genre. I watch my fair share of horror movies but i never really take this serious because I've only really watched the horror films of the last decade. But now i may have to reconsider what I get off Netflix this summer.

It's even crazier that I loved this and its an '80s film. That because, just recently, my mom bought Fright Night. She told me i should watch it because it is a classic and it clearly is (since on RottenTomatoes it got a 95%). So I sat down and watch it and i thought it was terrible. I don't know if its a comedy or a horror film. Its very cheesy and the stories not even well crafted. Maybe its because I'm young (I'm 15) but I didn't like it at all. After watching that, I wasn't sure i would ever watch another '80s movie.

^^^One of the worst actors EVER!

But lately on spill, they've been talking about Drag Me To Hell for a while on the ACOCOs and LTDs and recommending the Evil Dead series. I really want to see this movie so i felt i owed it to myself to watch the series so I can fully appreciate his new work. And boy am I glad I did.

As most of you know, this movie needs no introduction. I guess thats what Sam Raimi felt because there really isn't introduction to the film! The opening title rolls and shit gets started. I loved the constant use of the "Dead Cam" (I just made that up haha). Its basically the point of view of the "dead" and really creates this sense of danger and tension.

I also loved how great Raimi handled the tension in the film. There were many sequences where the characters would look for someone or something and it would just be one long stretch of tension. And everytime you'd think something would pop out.......nothing.......and then he'd GET YOU!!!! Now I' m not easily scared (I guess I've developed a thick skin with horror because most of the ones that were supposed to be scary were just plain silly), but this movie had me scared to know whats around the corner......or under the floor.....or behind the curtain.

I also loved Bruce Campbell (but who doesn't!). He was pretty good at making me feel sligtly sympathetic and just being an ALL AROUND BADASS! As for everyone else, I felt they were just forgettable because(SPOILER!!!) they all died (SPOILER!!!) and their characters weren't really set up much. You might argue that Campbell's character wasn't fleshed out either but he was the only badass!.

it goes without saying- Badass

The gore in this movie was awesome! The one thing I enjoyed in Fright Night was this one scene where one of the vampires melted and it was just a really cool effect. I love watching older movies like this and just looking at the practical effects. In a way i think they are better than using computer effects. There was one scene at the movie towards the end where to characters melted and there were blood and guts and goo and roaches....? You can clearly tell it was clay and stuff but I always think about the people behind the scenes and how they do all that. Also there was a lot of blood! And it wasn't just coming out of bodies. It was leaking out of was and power outlets and a partically funny scene when Campbell's character basically takes a blood shower. This movie didn't get a NC-17 for nothing!

JOOOOOOOOOOIIIIN UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSS

There were some things that I didn't like though. I didnt like that the characters weren't developed enough to care about them. Raimi kinda set up a thing with Campbell and His character's girlfriend but it kinda fell flat. I also didn't really understand why the characters didn't try to find a way out sooner then they did (they waited until not one but TWO people were possess until they decided to (attempt to) leave. But those are only nitpicks.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

This is an outstanding horror film. Raimi is truly a talented director to scare you like this in a film while simultaneously making you laugh! Its just a fun experience. And i here ED@ is even better!!! I'll definately check out the rest of the series and "Drag" real soon
