Hugh Laurie To Play Villain In 'Robocop' Remake?

More casting news today for Jose Padilha's 'Robocop' remake. We already know Joel Kinnaman will be playing the titular cyborg law enforcement officer. In addition, the remake has added Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson as a scientist and media mogul respectively. Now it seems Hugh Laurie ('House M.D.') is in talks to portray the villain of the film. Laurie would play the head of the infamous Omni Corp; the sinister corporation that designed Robocop for their own ends. No deal has yet been finalized.

This is a great piece of casting, should it come to fruition. Hugh Laurie is an incredible actor, and it pains me that we don't get to see him in more films. He has such a rich, interesting voice that he's often relegated to animated fare ('Hop,' 'Arthur Christmas,' 'Monsters vs Aliens'). I'll be happy to see him in something this high-profile. Plus, I have no doubt that the guy will make a kick-ass villain. He plays Dr. House with such a snide, narcissistic swagger that it seems only a mild tweak further in the evil direction and he'll be the perfect corporate sleaze. The original film was as much a satire of the 1980s as it was a sci-fi actioner, and the business world was a major target of that satire. It is for this reason that the part Laurie could potentially be playing will be so important to establishing the tone and feel of the remake.

What do you guys think? Are you excited about Hugh Laurie possibly coming aboard?
