Hugh Jackman is sharpening his claws to once again take on the role of Wolverine in James Mangold's not-so-enigmatically titled 'The Wolverine.' What we know so far about this second solo outing for the adamantium-infused hero is that it will find Logan in Japan and most likely, based on previous reports, have him matching wits and steel with The Silver Samurai. We also know that the movie will be presented in 3D, making it the first of any of the X-Men movies to feature the extra dimension. Now we have another juicy tidbit relating to what we can expect from 'The Wolverine.' During a recent interview, Jackman let slip this little nugget...
"Okay, the movie takes place after X-Men: The Last Stand. My character is at his lowest. He is supposed to be able to heal himself, but he may encounter someone who has worked out a way to really hurt him. And there is a cameo from one of the past X-Men in it."
One of the past X-Men? Considering the fact that Bryan Singer is gearing up for his next outing with the astonishing mutant hero crew, and that it's called 'X-Men: Days of Future Past,' Jackman's choice of words is interesting. It would be very easy to write this off as a misunderstanding, after all there will be characters from X-Men/Wolverine canon in 'The Wolverine' so if that's all he's referring to it's not exactly spectacular. However, he specifically says that it's a cameo. If he were just speaking about the appearance of a well-known, but heretofore unseen character from the comic story arc they'll be covering in the movie, the word cameo would be sorely out of place. So, who do we assume the cameo will be? My prediction is that it'll be Professor X. It could be during the central plot or perhaps in an epilogue taking place many years later. They've already confirmed that Patrick Stewart will be returning for 'Days of Future Past,' so it's reasonable and economical that they would also have either Stewart's or James McAvoy's Prof X turn up in 'The Wolverine.' I could be very wrong, but that's one theory.
What do you guys think? Who might be this mysterious cameo be? How do you think that character might be worked into the plot?

It's not an official thing it's really more like a glorified fan theory! Unfortunately it seems the filmmakers aren't as hung up about continuity as I am! But as you correctly pointed out Professor X lost the use of his legs and got them back several times in the comics!
Comment by 31 on December 28, 2012 at 3:22pm without the numbering of the films anymore and having many chronological mistakes between all these xmen movies, i lost track of where we are and whos here and not here
Roboto- That's the first I've heard about that. I wouldn't mind if it's true, but is that an official thing?
That said, when I saw First Class, I completely assumed that it was meant to reboot the entire X-franchise, until Jackman showed up in it.
However, Prof. X lost and regained use of his legs like a million times in the comics from what I remember.

Comment by Happy Birthday Roboto on December 27, 2012 at 2:24pm Guys, do you remember X-Men the Last Stand? It showed us Patrick Stewart as the old Professor X walking around and then X-Men First Class showed us James McAvoy loosing the use of his legs as a young Professor X.
What most people agree is that X-Men First Class wiped X-Men the Last Stand from the X-Men movie timeline, so why set a wolverine movie in the wake of a film that no longer "exists?"
Are 20th Century Fox even paying attention to what they're doing?

Comment by SunGod on December 27, 2012 at 9:58am so glad to hear this takes place after last stand. i was kinda done with all the prequels im ready to find out what happens next
Comment by Boy Blue on December 27, 2012 at 7:59am I guessing it's Kitty or Rogue (or whichever one of the many little girls he mentors) that Fox plans on using for Days of Future Past.
Comment by Joe Cool on December 27, 2012 at 12:57am That's not really much of anything to go on, it could be anyone from the previous films. I mean, he could have been using the term "X-Men" very loosely and referring to a character from his team in X-Men Origins simply because they're part of the "X-Men" universe. I thought this film was going to be a sequel to "Origins" and take place before the "X-Men" trilogy, but hey, this is better, it's keeps the story moving and surely ties into the "Days of Future Past" film somehow.
