It seems 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' will indeed feature actors from the franchise's past as well as its future. Just a couple of days ago, it was announced that Sirs Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart would be joining the cast, playing of course the older Magneto and Professor X counterparts to Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy in a storyline that allows for such playful chronology. But what of Wolverine? As he is a character that features so prominently in the 'Days of Future Past' comic, it wasn't so much a question of whether he would be added to the roster as much as question of who would play him. Would they recruit the current holder of the role, or perhaps cast a slightly younger performer? Well today it looks like we might just have our answer, Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to reprise the role for 'Days of Future Past.' Jackman is currently shooting his second solo Wolverine film, this time under director James Mangold.
File this under, "it was only a matter of time." As I said, with Wolverine being such a crucial part of this plot, we were eventually going to have to see something about his casting. It's also not surprising that they decided to go with Hugh Jackman again. I don't even think it's a question of maintaining a cohesiveness for audiences (i.e. not introducing them to a new Wolverine in one movie a year after Jackman's second solo effort). This probably has more to do with Bryan Singer's relationship with Jackman, and more specifically his relationship with Jackman as that character. The two previous X-Men films that Singer directed definitely featured Wolverine-heavy plot lines. It seems to be the character in which he's most interested, and getting Jackman back allows him to further that interest. I realize this deal is still in the negotiation stage, but with as much career traction as Jackman has gained playing this part, he'd be crazy not to make the deal.
What do you guys think? Are you happy that it seems Jackman will be returning as Wolverine? Would you have been okay with a different actor stepping in for 'Days of Future Past?'

They need to use Jackman as much as they can before he gets too old. He's a great wolverine.
Comment by Joe Cool on November 29, 2012 at 6:51pm Duh...if Wolverine hasn't aged a day since the Civil War...unless they wanted to use a new actor...why would they need to cast anyone else?

Comment by SunGod on November 29, 2012 at 5:15pm uh yeah x-men has been fucking up since the 3rd movie. first class was a step in the right direction despite continuity errors. The least they could do is keep hugh jackman on and thank god. i cant wait until disney purchases the rights to x-men or atleast wolverine
Fuck yeah. Using time travel to change the plot lines is a huge way out of x3's corner they stuck themselves into. And I personally would love to see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine back in the xmen proper stories. Furthermore since they are going to have both young and old magnetos and Wolverine (as much as I love Wolverine), I would really like to see the world's greatest ass kicking on Wolverine, conducted by both magnetos. Something along the lines of.... the younger magneto spins Wolverine on a central axis so fast one of his eyes pop out. Then the older one says something to the effect of, "let me show you how its done!", and he sends Wolverine up into outer space, then brings him down (on fire from crashing into atmosphere) and gives him an epic impact with the earth. In some of the comics, Wolverine doesnt just have regeneration but actually comes back from death. I think something to this effect (somehow put into pg-13 form, barely) is the only justice that can be done to show just how tough Wolverine is and why he is a force to be reckoned with (against anyone but Magneto)....Just a thought.

What makes you think they would consider doing that? We've seen from Origins: Wolverine, Wolverine has looked the same age since the Civil War. Unless some part of the story took place between Logan's mutation kicking in and that time, there would be zero need to recast the role.
I'm happy that he's still doing the role, I think he does a great job. Other's dislike the prominence placed on him so far in the films, or his height, but the latter is a totally superficial detail which has little bearing on Wolverine's characterisation, which I think Jackman has down pat anyway.
