If it's crap ... We'll tell you

When I first watched it at the age of ten I loved it to pieces, yet could not help but struggle to sleep for a few weeks, especially the one night when I swore there was a facehugger in my bedroom! It was scary, it was funny, it was believable and overall just awesome. It took everything about its predecessor and exploded its brilliance.
Directing at its best from James Cameron and acting at its best from all actors in the film, most notably Sigourney Weaver as Ripley a woman who wouldn’t think twice about kicking your arse, this character was actually very important during the 80’s whilst woman were gaining more and more equal rights. My favourite thing about the film was the character design, I thought and still think that the Aliens, or Xenomorphs as they are really called, are the best designed and scariest monsters ever, the facehuggers have always been so scary because there exactly why people hate spiders! Oh and the Alien Queen, she was just beautiful. *Spolier start*the final sequence of the film where Ripley is the mec suit against the Alien queen is my favourite one on one fight scene ever, its just perfect *Spolier end*. I have watched this film at least ten times and still love it every time I see it.

Alien Queen- ‘Leave the Alien series alone you BITCH!’
Predator is also in my top film list. It is Schwarzenegger's greatest moment. The films story is not complex and hardly anything is really explained, but that’s really not a problem because it adds to its believability, sometimes you can’t find out all the reasons behind something and so have just accept what's happening or make your own guess on why the events occurred. There’s just enough story to set up some of the best action scenes ever filmed, the raid on the camp is brilliant to watch every time I see it. But that’s not my favourite thing about this film, its its dialogue. Just like Aliens Predator contains some of the greatest film lines ever made, many of which you don’t even realise your quoting or are being quoted in popular culture, ‘get to the chopper’ and ‘I ain’t got time to bleed’ are prime examples. Again to me this film was perfect.
Right that’s enough kissing up to films, here's the real reason I wrote this article:
Sequels
Alien 3 is the single most disappointing film I have ever seen, after seeing Aliens it was not another five years before I watched Alien 3, I was so happy that I was watching it finally. It took me only ten minutes of the film for me to see my mistake. Alien introduced the Xenomorphs, there life cycle and attributes. Aliens showed us there society and hierarchy as well as there goals. Alien 3 showed us nothing, apart from one Xenomorph running down corridors, poor script writing, poor acting and showing us that Sigourney Weaver will do anything if the moneys right. It was not what anyone wanted to be done with the series and Fox knew this yet they still made the film.
I recently heard on a spill.com podcast that Fox advertised Alien 3 before the script had even been finalised, using the tag line 'On Earth everyone can hear you scream'. Why did they not pursue an Alien film on earth? They had the funds and the fan base. Such a shame Alien 3 happened. Resurrection was at least fun to watch, but realism had left the series and people were giving up on the franchise. I don't understand how cloning Ripley cloned the Alien Queen, they didnt share DNA at any point and where did the DNA come from anyway? Ripley jumps into liquid metal at the end of Alien 3.
So what about Predator? Surely they could sod up a sequel to that? Wrong. Predator 2 is the worse film in all 10 Alien and Predator films, and that’s a hard prize to claim. When they wrote the script Schwarzenegger did not want to be involved so they developed a new main character. So who could possibly be strong enough and smart enough to beat another Predator just like how Schwarzenegger barely did? Danny Glover. Not just Danny Glover playing a bad ass character though, no silly. Danny Glover playing his role from Lethal Weapon, a stereotypical black American Cop. He doesn’t look like he can even fight a regular criminal so how can he beat an elite Alien which is born into a culture where it is part of growing up to fight and hunt down prey? The mind boggles thinking how any meeting comparing Glover to Schwarzenegger ended well and logically.

Predator 2- watching this film remined me of the Predator line ‘Kill me, kill me now’. In the bad way.
I have not seen Predators but I hear its OK. I like the idea behind it anyway, sounds like a far better sequel than Predator 2 anyway, not that that's hard. Just like Aliens, Predators has loads of Predators because its cool to see them die sometimes rather than dominating all the while, to avoid them becoming god like tanks, I can’t wait to see it.
So what happens when you ruin two beloved film series that you own assets in but still make money? Combine them. Alien Vs Predator is in fact a decent film, as well as its sequel Alien Vs Predator: Requiem, though some of the filming and lighting was poorly done in Requiem which ruined parts for me. Though I must say that acting and lines are terrible in these films, I can’t quote a single line from them yet could say half the script of Aliens and Predator. But the action and stories are actually pretty good, I like the fact that they take place in modern times rather than the future to avoid destroying the Alien franchise any further.
So what does the future hold for these series? The Alien Vs Predator series has been axed because it wasn’t making enough money, a slight shame as I would have liked to see how they worked the films twist at the end into a film. Predators success means that a sequel is in the pipelines. The Alien series however is working in another way, two prequels have been confirmed, the first in early 2012. They look at the creation of the Aliens, which will either be awseome or massively disappointing or even completely pointless. What I’m looking forward to most is however an Xbox 360 game. Titled Aliens: Colonial Marines you play as a marine is an alternative story Arc to Alien 3, as if Alien 3 never happened (See the sequel we always wanted already!), you play as a Marine who are searching the massive ship Ripley was in Crio sleep in, this somehow leads to an Alien infestation on earth. Awesome, I’m hoping its because Ripley was holding the baby Queen and so dies before the game even starts. Why? Because to me Ripley is already dead, her character has been murdered enough and I don’t want anything killing her more.

Comment by Daryl Smith on February 21, 2011 at 7:59am Thats for your comment, good to see someone else who loves these films! I really do want to see Predators, its the only one of all the series I don't own so I should complete the collection.
If you ever want to get yourself angry, watch Alien 3, its that bad. I don't know why I like the AVP series, I think its because I like seeing fights with Alien Queens in them!
I'm the same as you.I grew up watching these movies and still watch the movie series for years Alien and Aliens & Predator and Predator 2. Predator 2 hasn't that bad and throughly enjoyed it for what it was. It had gore, action, and a decent plot. I was a kid and didn't know better but looking back the reason why I liked it so much because the alien and predator mythology interest me so much and as soon the Alien Vs Predator came out i was so excited for it i saved my money for the special collection dvdset. i watched it and made myself love it. No gore, no suspense, no good plot and no good anytime and yet i loved it That was when i was 12 or 13 and didn't know better. As my taste of flim improve throughout the years i truely hate Alien vs Predator for what it is SEAMING LOAD OF BULLSHIT!!!! The worst part i actually loved that movie. To this day, i still feel sick to my stomach about thinking about it. As for the sequel, I didn't bother. Alien 3, I never watched it cause the rep it has. I saw Predators and it was great. Of course, Brody is no Arnold, but the movie delievered it's goods. Producer Robert Rodriguez kept the predator series on a right path so far. At least, someone gaves a shit about the series. Give the movie a watch, Mr. Smith
