Hollywood Deaths Over Thanksgiving Weekend

Source: Various

Over the holiday weekend we lost a pair of Hollywood legends. Leslie Nielsen, comic genius and long-time leading man, died in Fort Lauderdale, FL surrounded by family and friends. He was 84.

Originally a serious actor who worked on landmark films like The Poseidon Adventure and Forbidden Planet among many, many others, Nielsen's fame rose from his bumbling comedic characters from movies like Airplane! and The Naked Gun series. He is survived by his (fourth) wife Barbaree and children Thea and Maura, whom the actor had with his second wife, Sandy Ullmann.

I missed the news about Kershner the first time because I was so quick to comment on Nielson but I have a lot of respect for the man and hold Empire Strikes Back as one of my favorite movies of all time.
Why Lucas didn't have him helm all three good Star Wars films I'll never know, but he gave the second movie a sense of drama, artistic beauty and character depth the others didn't have.
