Hollywood Casting News: 'Django Unchained', 'Parker', and More!

In possibly the biggest news today, Quentin Tarantino has chosen the leading man for his upcoming revenge western 'Django Unchained' - 'Ray' star Jaime Foxx. Dubbed a "Southern" by Tarantino, the film centers around Django - a slave who is freed by a German bounty hunter (played by Christoph Waltz) and trains with him in order to someday free his wife from the clutches of an evil plantation owner named Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) who runs Candyland, a free-for-all club where slaves fight each other to the death and the women are abused as sex objects.

While he may have been overlooked for the role of Django, 'Thor' actor Idris Elba isn't hurting for work. Elba has signed on to Guillermo Del Toro's Mechs-vs-Monsters flick 'Pacific Rim', taking over a role that was originally intended for actor Tom Cruise. Elba joins the growing cast, which includes 'Sons of Anarchy' star Charlie Hunnam and 'It's Always Sunny' actor Charlie Day. The film, which takes place in a post-Kaiju-decimated world where giant creatures begin to emerge from the Pacific Ocean, is expected to be released in 2013. The actor is also currently filming Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'.

Emma Stone will once again face down hordes of zombies, only this time in a much different setting. No, it's not the much-awaited 'Zombieland' sequel... according to Variety, Stone has been offered the lead role in Lionsgate's adaptation of the literary mash-up 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'. Directed by Craig Gillespie (the man behind the 'Fright Night' remake), the story is a collage of the classic Jane Austen tale about proud Mr. Darcy falling in love with the lower class Elizabeth (Stone), only now they have legions of zombies to contend with as well as class issues and a burgeoning romance.

Warren Beatty will step behind the camera for the first time since 1998's 'Bulworth' to direct a story based on eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes, Deadline reports. However, it will not be your standard biopic like Scorcese's 'The Aviator' or Christopher Nolan's post-Batman outing based on the book 'Citizen Hughes'. Instead, it will apparently center around an affair Hughes had with a much younger woman during the later years of his life (the creepy long-haired, uncut-fingernails, Baskin Robbins Banana Ripple-devouring years hopefully). Beatty plans to meet with a slew of high profile actors for the film, including Roonie Mara and Jack Nicholson.

Actress and 'American Idol' hostess Jennifer Lopez is known for her many roles as "the girl" in a dozen lousy rom-coms, and her next two pics don't really deviate from that formula much. First, she is set to star in the upcoming 'Parker' film (opposite Jason Statham as the hardened career criminal Parker) as a woman named Leslie who accidentally gets swept up in Parker's latest heist. In addition to that film, she is also currently eyeing a secondary role in the Cameron Diaz film 'What to Expect When You're Expecting'.

Finally, popular British actor Tom Wilkinson is in negotiations with Disney for a role in their upcoming adventure tentpole 'The Lone Ranger'. Currently, it is being reported that he is in talks to play a railroad tycoon who plays a "prominent role" in the film, opposite Armie Hammer as the Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as his faithful companion Tonto. Written by 'Pirates' duo Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, the film is scheduled to begin principal photography this fall and premiere around Christmas of 2012.

Well, I didn't like Ray because these movies about musicians are always the same, but Jamie did act well in it.

Also, Tarantino has been in a decline recently soooo I am not sure about this, need to see a trailer. I thought Warren Beatty was dead !

HOLY CRAP, i just had another case of deja vu :(

i remember seeing the same exact comment i just posted a long time ago. I actually hate deja vu because it still doesn't make sense. that means IN A WAY, i knew about Jamie Foxx being the lead of Django Unchained before even HE knew about it lol.

I still wish Discovery Channel or SOMEONE would make a tv-special about WHAT THE HELL the deal is w/ deja vu. its so damn annoying. its weirder than dreams, because it makes reality feel like a dream for a couple of minutes.

Who would've thought years ago, when "Held Up" and "Booty Call" were some of Jamie Foxx's most well known movies....would end up being the same guy who wins a well deserved Oscar, and almost steals the show in every movie has made since "Ray"???

I used to occasionally watch his tv-show (although it ALWAYS felt the same, even though I laughed a bit)..to me it was like "Martin 2" lol.

but seriously...everything he has done lately, except maybe "Stealth" and "The Kingdom" (that 1 i actually didn't mind) has been very entertaining. Even "The Soloist" i couldnt help but enjoy and felt uplifting. OK maybe "Due Date" wasn't so good, but it wasnt horrible, it wasn't "Held Up" or "Bait" lol..shit even that i liked when it originally came out lol.

Anyways, a movie with Foxx / DiCaprio / Waltz / Tarantino??? I'M ALL IN!!!

I'm sure Jamie Foxx will do fine, but I still would've rather seen how Will Smith would've done with a Quentin Tarantino dialogue and directing.

Don't let me down Tarantino! With a cast like that, you can't fucking do wrong!

@Travis Pickle

A British remake of Pulp Fiction could be pretty goddamn awesome actually. Throw Benedict Cumberbatch in that bitch and you're set.

To be honest the only thing that I care about that I learned from reading this is that CHris Nolan has a new film in the works; and the article wasn't even about that!

thats some good casting news...but WOW...I actually think Jamie Foxx is THE PERFECT CHOICE.

idk why. I mean he's not always amazing, but when he is, he truly shines.

I remember seeing him in Collateral and Ray and I was like "how did a comedian like himself become so brilliant as an actor??? what the hell happened?" Foxx and DiCaprio (and of course Waltz) in a Tarantino movie?? HOLY SHIT (unchained)!!!!

that son of a bitch Warren Beatty shouldn´t be doing the Hughes film, he´s a pathetic loser who actually wants to do the movie because he thinks he´s as awesome as H. Hughes, he doesn´t have a story or anything, just the shit he knows from T.V and old magazines, let Nolan do the "Citizen Hughes" film and go die some place else.
