You guys makes some valid points and I'll admit: The movie has a certain charm to it. Too bad it completely fails in the third act where Hesher just becomes an all out douchebag without any kind of likability.

I mean, this character works for a certain amount of time, but after about 1 hour of sittin' watchin' his insanity and metaphors it just starts to annoy you.

And if we gonna bring up the same issue as you guys had with the cops not bein' 'round: The fact that this guy wouldn't get his ass kicked within a matter of a day is beyond me. I mean he might be a psychopath, but most of the time he just looks like a drugged up crackhead.

He's not big, he doesn't know martial art or hand-to-hand combat and most of the time he's unarmed so it doesn't make any sense that the whole society would be completely terrified of him, hell back here in San Francisco he would've get his ass woop'd in a matter of seconds.

And if we ignore this rhinoceros of a plothole, how come the kid doesn't call the cops? I mean, as you guys said, he's obviously terrified of this guy and there's several times when he got the phone right before his fuckin' eyes so why the hell doesn't he call the police!?

Also, the sub-plot with Natalie Portman just went downhill and served the movie no point, but despite these complaints immah give this movie a solid Rental cuz of the many times I laughed and of course Gordon Lewitt's fantastic acting.

Hey now I know what I'll become since I love metallica and NIN. Lucky you guys got to see it. It wasn't playing anywhere near me. It pisses me off the past three months great movies are far, far, away from here. 13 assassins, bang bang club, and now this. Want to review this so bad cause I relate in to TJ in so many ways growing up.

Piper Laurie was in a movie called Hounddog a few years back with Dakota Fanning and Robin Wright (Penn) where she played the grandma. That movie utterly failed under all the cliches but the performances were awesome at least.

@Mr. K

That's the impression I get from the review. The cast does a great job but the script is on shaky ground.

This movie is very similar to the stuff MTV Films churns out. The movie tries to reinvent the "coming of age mentor" genre with a lot of unsentimental rebellion. The problem is that it falls into the trap that all MTV Films fall into. It tries so hard to be hip and cool that the messages ring false. I really don't think the writers did their homework. People in depression don't "simply snap out of it". You can shock them into temporary action but you can't force them into lasting recovery.

Now I'm wanting to see this movie when it comes to the area.

So is this turning into the year of Natalie Portman or something?  We've got this, Thor, and Your Highness all within the span of about a month!

After seeing this trailer I can definetly see Joseph Gordan Levitt playing Eric Draven!

The movie was alright, everyone gave a great performance. It wasn't as exciting as I hoped it would, considering that the place where I saw this movie was dead silent during the funny parts, and not as much metal as I hoped, but damn did the movie suprised me so many times.

And Natalie Portman in those glasses..........yyyyyyyyyyyYEES
