Okay, so Time Warner isn't what I would call on my COOL LIST right now. The past few days have been filled with answering e-mails, tweets and blogs about what internet provider I use because Time Warner decided that Austin would be one of three of their first markets to feel the pinch of a monthly downloading limit. They want to cap internet usage at 40G per household per month - then charge for anything above that. This is very, very bad. While aimed at hitting pirates where it hurts (their pockets) what it does is hurt those of us who watch or partake in legitimate entertainment via the web. Hulu, Youtube and Spill all stream large amounts of info into your home on a daily basis. Factor in massively multiplayer online roleplaying games (which often include hefty updates in addition to the constant back and forth traffic to play the game) and services like STEAM which allow you to download games whole hog (legally, mind you) you find those of us who turn to our computer for the bulk of our entertainment getting it right in the backside because of people (who most of you know are some of my favorite Americans) known as pirates.
THANKS PIRATES! Now go suck a box of dicks.
The big fear here of course is that enough Time Warner users won't jump ship at the thought to a more reliable service provider not yet charging like this (you know, like my provider AT&T) and other providers will follow suit as they catch a whiff of the money tree. But if Time Warner's new approach to the internet (which AOL abandoned in the '90s if I remember correctly) wasn't enough to put them on your radar, how about this little travesty?
To all FEARnet fans who subscribe to Time Warner or Bright House Cable --

Call 1-877-FEAR-247, we'll connect you with your cable operator and you can let them know you want FEARnet (And be aware that for some customers, FEARnet is available on AT&T U-Verse and Verizon Fios). We hope you will be able to enjoy the premiere on-demand destination for horror, thriller and suspense films, uncut and unedited, including the following titles coming soon.

Don't miss out. Call 1-877-FEAR-247 now.
So Time Warner has dropped FEARnet too? Great. I happen to be a fan of FEARnet - while as many of you know I don't have cable, many of those FEARnet films end up on Hulu where I watch them repeatedly. But look! AT&T still has it...I wonder if they provide solid internet service to Austinites as well...after you throw down your support for FEARnet, you might want to take a gander at them.
