HALLOWEEN MOVIE COUNTDOWN (Day 4) - The Monster Squad

Hey Kiddies!
So it’s October, which means cold weather, dead plants, and HALLOWEEN!!! It also means that horror movies should be playing in rotation on TV, or you should be getting in the holiday spirit by watching them. Some of you like myself have grown out of the whole trick-or-treating ordeal. Instead you may be out at a party or stuck with dishing out the candy to the trick-or-treaters. Or maybe you just ignore the kids knocking at your door, kick back with a bowl of candy and watch a scary movie. Well for this whole month I’m going to try and recommend some movies that will get you into the spirit of Halloween. Most will be familiar but hopefully I'll mention a few that will catch your interests. :)

The Monster Squad (1987) Dir.- Fred Dekker

I figure that I've got to be diverse when it comes to this countdown and not just choose straight up adult horror movies. So why not mention a few PG13 kid friendly movies, starting with a personal favorite of mine 'The Monster Squad'! I don't think I'm alone when I say that this movie rocks! It's kind of like The Goonies but thrown in a bunch of the Universal Monsters and you got yourself 'The Monster Squad'. A group of young kids share a bond of being outcast in there own school, and a love of movie monsters. But all that is put aside when they discover that Dracula has come to there town in search of an ancient amulet that can give him the power to control good and evil in the world. But Dracula isn't alone, he brings along the Wolfman, Frankenstein, The Mummy, and Gill-Man to help him in his search for the amulet. Now the kids have to stop Dracula before he destroys there small town and the world.
A few years ago this movie was hard to find, and you were luck if you had a VHS copy of it or happen to catch it on tv. I had been trying to find it for years, the only times I had seen it was as a Saturday afternoon feature on tv. Thankfully it was newly released for its 20th anniversary on to dvd. If you enjoy those 80's kids movies such as 'The Goonies' then you won't be able not to like this film. It's considered a cult classic to some (myself included). And it's a fun little action-adventure flick that anyone will love and have a good time watching.
