Gyllenhaal and Carrey to Star in 'Damn Yankees' Adaptation

Variety reports that actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Jim Carrey will have lead roles in a film adaptation of the classic musical Damn Yankees.
Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel are set to write the script with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the duo behind the Hairspray adaptation, producing.
Damn Yankees focuses on Joe Boyd, a happily married middle-aged man whose devotion to an unlucky professional baseball team prompts him to make a bargain with the devil to help the team win the World Series.
Carrey will play the devil and Gyllenhaal is set to play Boyd. It's the first musical for each.

This has the potential to be mind blowingly funny, but it sounds very much like Bedazzled, which was a dodgy film at best. I will definitely see it, since I could never say no to anything with Jim Carrey in, but I have my doubts. Will just have to find out!!!
