Guillermo del Toro Developing Stop-Motion 'Pinocchio'

Source: Variety

Variety reports that Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, The Hobbit) is developing a stop-motion Pinocchio feature with the Jim Henson Co. "as a darker version of the original fairy tale."

Del Toro's working on the screenplay with Gris Grimley, who illustrated a 2002 version of "Pinocchio." Grimley and Adam Parrish King are set to co-direct the film.

Ohh no....

Knowing this guy I think he might make pinochio a not so kid friendly tail (Which it really isnt suppost to be but Disney scraped the original tale and went for a story about a father in his son when the original was just a PSA telling you to not do drugs). Anyway, This might be kind of Jim Henson (Mirror Mask)'ish, but i'll look into it.

Yeah, they try to hang Pinocchio but he's made of wood so he doesn't die. We also must not forget about the cricket getting crushed with a hammer early on, and becoming a ghost cricket for most of the book!

Did you guys ever read the orginal book? The version before Disney adaptaion? It's has some trully dark moments (for example a scene when Fox and cat try to kill Pinocchio in forest with kinfes and he bites cats hand off, and they try to hang him, but he dosent die for some reason) and it is very disturbing in tone, much like the orginal "Alice in Wonderland" (if not more).
I can imagine a better director for a adaptation of this book...

del Toro and Jim Henson Co? This could make me squee like a fangirl. Granted Henson Studios haven't been the same since Jim Henson died but maybe this and the Dark Crystal sequel can put them back on track.

I actually just ejaculated reading this. Anyone who's read Carlo Collodi's Pinocchio knows how dark and twisted it really is, and I was waiting for someone like this to happen.
