'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Begins Searching For Its Star-Lord

Even though The Avengers and their return to solo movie projects dominates the landscape of Marvel news at the moment, we mustn't forget about James Gunn's 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' Though it may have been a rather unlikely choice for filmic adaptation, Marvel is surging ahead with 'Guardians.' The shortlist of actors in the running for 'Guardians' leader Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord) has just been released. It looks like the top contenders, at least the ones actually testing for the role, are Joel Edgerton ('Warrior'), Jack Huston ('Boardwalk Empire'), Jim Sturgess ('Cloud Atlas'), Lee Pace ('Lincoln'), and Eddie Redmayne ('Les Miserables'). There may even be a few more, but this is the list as we know it so far. 'Guardians of the Galaxy'is due in theaters August 1st, 2014.

Truth be told, there are probably two dozen more actors vying for the role, but the fact that Marvel is actually testing this lot speaks to the studio's heightened interest in them. I must say I am disappointed that Nathan Fillion is not in the running. I know my desire to see him in the role was originally somewhat of a gag predicated upon the fact that both 'Guardians' director Gunn and Marvel overlord Joss Whedon had both worked with him in the past, but the more I hear about Star-Lord, the more I think Fillion would have been perfect. That said, looking at this group, the one I think I would most support is Jack Huston. He may not have the established name as does Joel Edgerton, but his performance ability is unquestioned. His character on 'Boardwalk Empire'is by far my favorite to have come along in any of its seasons; so dark and complicated. That said, it'll still be interesting to see which names are added to the Star-Lord pool as this progresses.

What do you guys think? Do you like any of these gents for the role? Who would you cast?

Lee Pace 100%. He's the only one in the list that has both the look and the acting chops. Edgerton is great but doesn't look even remotely like Quill.

Jack Huston would be great...

I like Nathan Fillion as much as the next guy but I dunno if that window has closed.

Joel Edgerton could be alright but Jack Huston is my # 1 choice by a large margin. My only hope is they don't choose a young actor. Peter Quill is supposed to be a bad ass who's not quite as young as he used to be but doesn't let that stop him from not taking shit from even the likes of a cosmic deity.

Fuck Boardwalk Empire.  Lee Pace.

Anyone but Eddie Redmayne. He hasn't really impressed me yet, plus I'm still pissed at him for having to kiss Emma Watson in My Week With Marilyn, haha
