My fellow nerds and Spillions who give a crap, lend me your ears; it's time to realize the truth of this pitiful situation. As you may or may not be aware, graphic novels have become the popular alternative name for a comic book, and honestly I couldn't be more unimpressed at this shift. Do you really think that renaming a medium will make it any more appealing? I don't call video games synergistic novels, except for jesting, because you know what, they aren't!

Novels imply an actual book, so having small blurbs of dialogue with a pretty picture in the background doesn't exactly cut it especially when novels utilize the ability to highlight details of thought, sight, or emotions whereas comic books cannot. Do I think that comic books can't reach the level of literary status? Absolutely not. Comics such as
Maus,
Watchmen and
Asterios Polyp have shown that comic books can reach a level or creativity can that truly shine in the medium of comic books.

Embrace the word 'comic book' because to disguise it any other way would be a disservice the comic books that you hold dear.
Those are my two cents. Spend 'em wisely.
